So my contract ends next month and I'm going home.
I looked at flights and it seems to be a lot more expensive then when we came last year. the CHEAPEST (aka bad times and transfers) is at least $300 more than last year, and my ideal flight (a direct flight to my hometown) is almost twice as much.
So, would it be reasonable to assume the school will reimburse the whole amount, or only the cheapest flights? I'm not buying first class or business or anything, I just would really want a direct flight if possible, less hassle.
I'm on the 2009 gepik contract, which doesn't mention about amount of airfare or anything, just that they would do it. |

| My school reimbursed me 2 million won for my flight home. I was on a EPIK contract last year too. |

| The best thing to do is probably ask someone from the school or your recruiter. My SMOE contract will spend up to $1300 for me. |

EPIK and SMOE have a set cap now at 1.3 million won for the cost of the flight home. You can pretty much get a flight anywhere in the world for this much without any problems. It may not be the best flight but it's doable.
Too many teachers took advantage of the blank check so the school boards simply capped it which isn't a bad idea. I believe if you can get a flight for less you can pocket the leftovers which is a pretty nice deal.
As for private schools they seem to pretty much cut the line at $1000 for flights. Of course some flights will cost more and if the cheapest flight possible is more than they're obligated to pay for it. Schools are not obligated to send you home in the most convenient manner for you so they tend to want to do it in the cheapest manner possible. |

For EPIK, it's actually a better deal now. If you don't renew, they'll just give you the 1.3 million cash. If you do renew, they'll give you 2 million cash. So whatever you do with the cash, they don't care. It's pretty easy finding tickets with a few hundred-k to spare. |

| Sometimes flights home are going to be way more expensive than the 1.3 million won. I was 2.0 million won to get home on a one way ticket. Return airfares are much cheaper. |

Just wondering where are you going that a one way will cost 2 million? Should be well under 1 million if you're headed to North America if you use a Korean travel agency. |

True. Using western flight search engines can put you 300 USD + over comparable Korean sites.
For example, I just booked a one way AA flight from a Korean site for 1 million won. On Kayak and the AA site in America, etc., it was over 1.4.
That seemed to hold true across the board throughout my searches. |
