hello

Returning to Korera in APril , not sure if will arrive with or without a job...

I understand that I need criminal checks now that have to be notarised. Is it as simple as just popping into local police station - and how about getting them authenticated - Is it best done over here (how?) - or can I do it at emabassy over there ???

cheers

Not sure what the procedure is for England. However, in Scotland it is not as simple as walking into the local police station. You have to apply to Disclosure Scotland which takes about 3 weeks. Then you have to get the form signed by a solicitor. Then you have to send your police check to the FCO (which I think is in Milton Keynes now) to get apostilled.

cheers - found this which is a bit confusing as not sure how I can get a crb check if i dont have a job lined up..........

How do I apply for a CRB Check?
An individual cannot make an application for a Disclosure directly, and the Disclosure service does not apply to those people who are self-employed. This is because there needs to be an independent person who makes the decision to employ an individual having assessed that they pose no threat to either children or vulnerable adults in their care. If a person is self-employed there is no independent third party to make that decision.

There are two ways of applying for a CRB check. You will either be asked to:

telephone the Disclosure application line on 0870 90 90 844, in which case you will need to provide the Registered Body name and number (Please have this information to hand when calling), or
complete a paper application form handed to you by the person who asked you to apply.
In both instances, you will have to provide evidence of your name, address and date of birth, along with the Registered Body name and number, and the level of CRB check. This will help the person who asked you to apply, confirm your identity.

Hello mate,
I'm flying back ou from the UK on tuesday for my second year. As already said, you can go through the Disclosure Scotland or get a subject access report form from your local police...in my case this:

http://www.leics.police.uk/files/library/documents/prosecutions_convictions_cautions_forms.pdf

You send it off to the police station, who forward it to Scotland Yard. Costs a tenner and I got mine back in 12 working days.

Then, you can either send the original only to the Commonwealth Office in Milton Keynes and wait a few days/weeks (I'm not sure) or go there yourself and get it done on the day, which costs about 30.

Immigration only accept the apostilled original (which is watermarked, so no copies can be made).

I have to admit, it's a bit of a ballache. I was in Korea until christmas 2009 (I had a clean CRC anyway to get my original visa), and then I had to prove I had'nt committed any crimes in the UK since my last CRC, which again has came back clean...because I was in Korea!!!

This time however, I'm flying out with all my documents in my hand and I'll get it stamped at the British Embassy near City Hall in Seoul (Don't know where you'll be going), which my bro who has just done the same last week told me it cost him 72,000 won.

Good luck mate

Actually, yes, it is as simple as walking in to the local police station in Scotland. It still takes some time for it to process (anything up to 40 days), but either is accepted.
