Anyone know if it would be legal to teach part time on-line esl lessons while working at a public school?? On an e2 visa and I know I would have to jump through some immigration hoops but anyone know what it would entail and/or if it would be possible?? Thanks in advance.

There'll be a clause in your public school contract specifically prohibiting additional paid work (K-teachers face the same restriction).
Legally, a no-go.

Legally, a no-go. Morally.. meh. That's the direction I always point my compass.

Yes but doesn't it say you can't work anywhere else unless you get permission from your employer so theorhetically couldn't u ask and take it to immi to add to your visa thus making it legal??

No it doesnt. Its illegal. No public school can consent. Only hagwons can sign off on a secondary job & thats not common.

Well, technically if you would be teaching on-line while you were at school, you would not be at a second location.

I think they would frown on it though.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Public school teachers, Korean or foreign, are "FORBIDDEN BY LAW" to take ANY 2nd job.

That issue aside, go for it but send your cash to your home account instead of your Korean one. Then it is virtually a non-issue.

I have never had a visa or a work permit for any online teaching I did in Korea. The same organization got me work permits for other jobs all the time, but never for my online work.

what if you have an F4 Visa? is it still "illegal" to work a second job? whether it be teaching or something completely outside of education?

What kind of online teaching positions are out there? I wouldn't mind something part time while I jobhunt for a full time job.

One of the Korean teachers at my public school did some teaching at another public school one vacation time a while back (a camp or something). She said she had the consent of the principal of our school...

Ttompatz, would this be regarded as acceptable/dodgy/downright illegal?

Pretty sure it's ok even for us to work at camps at other schools.

I really don't want to look at my contract but I'm pretty sure if you get your public school to sign off on it or whatever. Agree and what not you can take it to Immigration and it will be legal. I'll check later when I'm finished desk warming.
