glass-bottom boat ride or aquarium visit maybe?
Agree with the volcano thing hardcore (LOVE volcanoes). I would probably center the remaining activities around eating, window shopping, drinking fruity stuff, people watching, and playing at the beach.
A nice hike would be good too. |

I used to live in Lahaina, Maui. If you go there its pretty fun. Make sure you get a car because public transpo is terrible. The turtle cruise is good. If you want a nice, quiet beach try baby beach near Lahaina. The eastern part of the island has the cool black sand beaches. A rainforest hike is cool. Avoid eye contact with the locals if you see any. They are probably coming/going to a weed crop and are very cheeky. The banyon tree is really cool down by the elementary school. If you want cheap diving stuff go to Boss Frogs. Remember not to swipe any sand or rocks...its bad luck. Not fan death bad luck but a real superstition. Cheers. |

Go/stay in Kona...Hilo is wet, damp. Nice to see and you can always drive to Hilo...but Kona is laid back, no bali bali lifestyle! Dive with the Manta Rays at night! Visit The Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory in Kailua Kona! See the volcano!
And, stay away from koreans.....you'll have enough when you return! |

I lived on the big island for a while and also found Hilo less attractive. The town can be shabby and rainy. Kailua-Kona has probably changed a lot since I lived there in '92, but at the time there was a good beach in town near the King Kamehameha hotel and a very nice one a ways north, Hapuna beach. You would also be near, as I recall, Parker's Ranch in Waimea. Because of the way the city is situated, Kona is quite dry and almost looks desert-like. Nice place and probably still cheaper and more easygoing than Honolulu. An interesting airport with no walls! |

I definitely agree with this list. Try to get to Diamondhead for the sunrise; I thought it was worth the pain of getting up that early.
When you (and frankly if you visit Oahu you must) visit the North Shore, you also have to try Matsumoto's Shaved Ice. http://www.matsumotoshaveice.com/index.php?lang=en
Also, I highly recommend The Polynesian Cultural Center http://www.polynesia.com/ I'm not the biggest fan of these kinds of places, but I have to say that it's really well done and totally worth it. Also, they have a really nice Luau.
If you are in downtown Waikiki, there's a cool place called Moose McGillycuddys that's cheap (a nice change in Waikiki) and has really great food. http://www.mooserestaurantgroup.com/Waikiki-Hawaii.html
If you're interested, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kualoa_Ranch is where they filmed a bunch of movies and they have a lot of activities and stuff to do there. If I remember correctly, the prices are actually quite reasonable, but it's been awhile since I went there.
My general advice is to just enjoy the local restaurants, and if you're in to seafood, try Mahi Mahi. |

I lived in Hawaii and done pretty much everything on this list. Definitely, as in you must, do Hanauma Bay. Fantastic place, excellent snorkeling. Diamondhead and the Arizona are both a must. Hell, just being in Hawaii is good enough, especially as cold as it is in Korea now. |
