The LA Times' John Glionna did all the work here:

http://www.latimes.com/news/nation-and-world/la-fg-korea-english31-2010jan31,0,123114,full.story

Quote:
Sometimes, in his off hours, Yie Eun-woong does a bit of investigative work.

He uses the Internet and other means to track personal data and home addresses of foreign English teachers across South Korea.

Then he follows them, often for weeks at a time, staking out their apartments, taking notes on their contacts and habits.

He wants to know whether they're doing drugs or molesting children.

Yie, a slender 40-year-old who owns a temporary employment agency, says he is only attempting to weed out troublemakers who have no business teaching students in South Korea, or anywhere else.

The volunteer manager of a controversial group known as the Anti-English Spectrum, Yie investigates complaints by South Korean parents, often teaming up with authorities, and turns over information from his efforts for possible prosecution.

Outraged teachers groups call Yie an instigator and a stalker.

Yie waves off the criticism. "It's not stalking, it's following," he said. "There's no law against that."

I'm not advocating violence or retribution, but I do enjoy him having the tables turned, and knowing that, with thousands of English teachers on the look out for him, he won't have such an easy time getting around.

My friend had a similar theory in college.

"I'm not STARING at the girls i'm LOOKING at them". (For a really long time that made them uncomfortable and eventually leave)

"It's not stalking, it's following". HAHAHA! Such a fine line between innocent interest and obsessive harassment.

I had made a derogatory comment about this guy, but I deleted it because I'm SURE that he reads Dave's, and knowing the insane libel / character defamation laws they have in Korea, he probably could have sued me over it. Be careful, guys!

C'mon Redaxe, a little spine here. This site is not Korean. It originates in the US.

I think there were three BIG lines in this, two of which have already been posted:

1. "It's not stalking, it's following," he said. "There's no law against that."

2. "To be honest," he said, "a lot of our group members believe the teachers made this all up."

3. "This has nothing to do with race. It is all about teaching," said Kim Young-Lan, a sociology professor at Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul.

4. Yie, who is single and has no children

To me 2 and 3 are the big ones. This is a group completely detached from reality, and they DO make things up--- that or they are genuinely crazy and suffering from paranoid delusions.

And number three is at the heart of this whole matter. The new policies and regulations have nothing to do with teaching.

I've been exploring Taiwan's system, and here are some key differences:

1. EVERY buxiban(hagwon) has training. Real. Actual. Training. They don't bring teachers in and tell them about Kimchi, or the east sea etc, you get sat down and told these are your textbooks, this is how you use them.

2. the textbooks comprise a 'system'. And for the most part it's a very impressive system. Nothing like it in Korea.

3. They ONLY hire certified teachers to teach at their public schools. This might block some excellent teachers from teaching at a public school, but the policy makes sense and is easily justified.

I don;t want to rehash what has undoubtedly been discussed on this site numerous times, but the problem is the system in Korea. If the amount of effort this group and hagwons/PS put in to the current system could be transfered into a real, functioning system, then things would improve a lot here.

Single, mmmmm. I wonder why? So he wants to throw up a huge C-block, nothing new here, just on a larger scale.

But if HE is in Korea and YOU are in Korea, I don't think it matters that Dave's ESL Cafe is hosted in the U.S., you can probably still get sued in Korea for character defamation if you bash him on here. I'm not sure though, someone correct me if I am wrong on this.

Sheet can happen.

If you do research, you'll hear the story of the guy who got sued by his former hagwon.

The guy was getting stiffed by his employer and wasn't getting his final pay or something. He took the employer to court/labour board and laid out all the facts about how he wasn't getting his pay.

The employer claimed that the blogger was defaming his school or whatnot and the blogger ended up getting counter sued.

I wonder what the weasle, I mean Yie, feels about white dudes dating Korean chicks?

He almost had a girlfriend until the englishee teacher took her from him and now he's pissed.

Look at the first comment: "Thanks for the photo. I look forward to seeing this little punk."

ahahahahahahahahahaha
