|
|
My conversation club students (all 12) were furious that the U.S GRAMMY's did not give any awards to the Wonder Girls, or....Rain. They even thought Boa MIGHT get one award. I think this shows me how the media and that JYP guy manipulate the Korean people. These girls (middle school 2nd year) honestly thought the Wonder girls would sweep the awards. I told them that maybe the Korean media was making them seem a little more famous than they were, but these girls were really angry at the Grammy judges

Ah yes, the Grammys, one great big celebration of all things American and popular, which does not mean good, or Korean, or both. |

The Grammy Awards are so fake anyway,
Just listened to "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On it)," Beyonce Knowles
which won two (2) awards and thought it was NOT good - in fact I don't like the song at all,
and yet, it somehow won two awards |

Believe it or not, it's probably the best and most creative song on that list, and on Top 40 radio in the past year. |

Maybe these girls did think that The Wonder Girls might win an award because of their recent exposure in America. It's the naivety of youth rather than the brainwashing machine of JYP!! I used to watch the Grammy's hoping that an Australian artist would win an award...it's not about anything more than what I knew at the time.
They're kids...cut them some slack! Children have very little awareness of the media and how it operates...we become cynical and analytical with age and experience. |

They're 12 year old girls. You, on the other hand, should know better. |

I stopped reading when I saw (all 12). When you see enough of JanafromAtlanta's posts, it's only natural.
Even if they were 15 ( THAT'S 13 WESTERN AGE) they SHOULD be clueless about American pop culture, and the media. They're Korean. They don't get exposed to anything but books and Korean propaganda |

Well, your students can bond with the thousands of other angry American internet posters who are upset about Taylor Swift winning so many awards.
But why would they be mad now? The nomination list went out ages about with no K-pop artists in sight. It irritates me when so many teens believe that K-pop singers are big in America. |

I think the point of the post was just to make another snide remark about Korea from janafromthetrailerpark. |

Yes...she is their teacher...she should understand her students. It makes her look clueless as a teacher, rather than making the students look clueless. As a teacher it doesn't hurt to understand that children aren't as media/culture aware as we are. |
