But also, Fox, the idea of a god coming down to prove himself to a mortal is absurd.

Not if it loves me and wants me to believe in it its not. If it doesn't care if I believe in it, and doesn't care about me personally, then I agree it undoubtedly has better things to do with its time.

My point was simply that many atheists don't disbelieve because we don't want to believe (as certain posters here have suggested), but rather because we feel there's insufficient reason to believe. If there's a god out there, I want to know about it. I might not worship it, but I'm very interested in knowing.

A couple of the first responders were dead on. This simply isn't an analogous parallel.

It goes beyond legislating, though. We're talking about a movement that boasts/claims they're numbers represent about 15% of the total population. They deal in billions of dollars. Not only is the level of delusion not the same, the sheer scope isn't the same, either.

The way things have been going in recent years, maybe we should give astrology a chance to determine our collective fate. I somehow doubt the results would've been much worse.

Or examining sheep entrails. Maybe US presidential candidates should be subjected to a phrenology examination - just to make sure.

Of course it's not exactly the same. This article is just saying it's kind of dumb for people to laugh at creationism and then call up their feng shui guide. I wasn't even talking about politically.
