Hey Eslcafe,

I'm a recent college graduate with no teaching experience. Since I know that I'm not supposed to fill up an ESL resume with my previous non-applicable jobs, I'm at a loss with what to include in my resume. So far, it feels like the only thing I have going for me is my BA in English. Do any of you have suggestions creating a competitive resume with no experience? What sort of things do schools look for in entry-level resumes?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe you helped tutor some foreign exchange students, worked in the language lab at school.

Even volunteer work can be put on.

Don't lie or make things up, but try to show how your previous jobs give you skills in the classroom.

If you have nothing, you have nothing.

Unfortunately, there are schools that will hire you.

I have seen resumes with just name, age, picture, degree, hobbies. Nothing on it at all, and they got hired.

I have said it many times and I will say it again. Go to your local superintendent's office and put your name on as a substitute teacher. You can get a little experience now while you are going through the process of getting a job.

You cannot create a competitive resume without any experience.

You can find work though. Just I doubt that the best schools will hire you without any teaching experience.
