After completing my contract, I was informed that rather than getting my exit allowance (as stated in my contract) they will only reimburse me for the flight to my home country. Well I am not going to my home country... Has anyone else been told this as well? And is there anything that can be done about it?

If your contract states that you'll get exit allowance, that's what you must get. Show them your contract and don't ask for it, demand it. If they don't budge, contact your coodinator or POE about it.

Why not just submit a booking for a ticket home at 1.3? Not sure where you home is, but you can easily find a booking to the interior of America that will fit the bill. Once you leave your school, they won't know where you go and it is none of their business.

Better yet, give them booking for 2 million. I'm they'll opt for the exit allowance.

One would be to book a refundable ticket to your home country, submit the booking for reimbursement and then cancel for a refund. One of several ways to do it Wink

go to the supervisors above the superintendent level. Some one is going to realize they have to give you your severance pay if you worked the whole contract. What you're describing just doesn't happen except in Hagwons. Go over the head of the superintendent and tell someone about it.

Two years ago, end of my first year of public elem, I had the same problem. It was a rural area and the supervisor was a renowned cat and mouse player. I needed to show him a ticket to my home country. I got a refundable ticket. The supervisor (county), as if having read my mind, said he'd call the travel agent to check if I got a refund and even immigration to check that I'd left, gone home, etc. But it worked out. I'd warn against going over a supervisor's head. In the public school system it doesn't go over very well since it's such a huge, well-integrated organization. Has the resources of gov't. The end of my second year they checked me out at every workplace I'd ever worked in Korea. It's not like a hagwon where some king rat gives you the shove and you move to the next little drama. More transparent.

What is in it for anyone to check up on you? Sounds a bit like a wind up to me, don't buy into the drama.

Buy your ticket online. A travel site like Orbitz, Travelocity, etc or a direct airline site is not going to release any details about your transactions to anyone. It is fantasy that Immigration is going to release details that they know about you to the general public. Regardless, Immigration does not have any foreknowledge of your travel plans. By the time Immigration knows were you are going, when you are at the airport being processed out, you will have your reimbursement in hand and be gone.

Don't blab about what you are doing, tell everyone at your school you are excited about going home to see your family, etc.
