ok... i've seen plenty of waygooks on cheesy korean drama shows, and i'd really like to know- how do you get involved in this? let's face it, the majority of these guys aren't exactly anything special to look at, and can't act their way out of a paper bag, so if they can do it, can i do it too? it sounds like a much better way to make a living than teaching english!
does anyone know anything about this, or have any amusing stories to share?
cheers |

I believe most of them speak Korean and have connections. First, you will need to learn how to speak Korean. You also have to be in the right place at the right time. |

Exactly, do your own networking. Reminds me of that movie Bowfinger, when Heather Graham gets off the Greyhound in Hollywood and asks a stranger "Where do I go to be famous?" |

Seriously, it's pretty easy and the more people you meet and know the easier it is. If you can speak some Korean it's even easier. |

My apologies Bobby, feeling a bit woooo today. I personally wouldn't do TV stuff, it's hard to act when they are telling you to be a certain way, and behave like a clown. I've met one of those TV guys on EBS and he's a nice guy, but I don't have much respect for the way he parades himself on TV like a clown (but don't imagine I could do it any differently to the way they demand), but he's connected, has written study books and speaks Korean very well.
But there is a world of other commercial stuff, which you need to get networking to do, so study Korean and follow beavers advice above. |

you generally need an E6 to do it legally, which are like hens teeth to come across. Especially as immigration arent giving any out at the moment.
There are plenty of people doing it illegally, pariculary "Surprise"... but I know of people who have been caught by immigration and the fines are huge added to the threat of deportation.
Networking is integral.... plus a touch of Korean helps a great deal |
