Hi everybody, long time lurker, first-time poster here.

I'm going back to Korea after a few months at home. I've been offered a few jobs, one of which is a public high school in JeonJu.

I just did a year in Daejeon at a hagwon. I like bigger cities- even Daejeon felt smaller than a city of 1.5 million. JeonJu has a population of around 650,000 so I'm not too enthusiastic about living there. However, the job does sound good so if anyone is familiar with JeonJu, particularly its nightlife, I'd appreciate it. I'm a 25 year old and even Daejeons nightlife got a bit stale after a few months, so I have a feeling that it won't be too great. Also, what's the foreigner community like there?

Let me put it to you this way.
I have a fantastic job, complete with great pay and a beautiful loft apartment, in Gangnam.

If given the opportunity you have, I would take it in a second.

I lived in Jeonju for two years, and think you'll get on just fine there.

I've been to Jeonju once for a few days and also Daejeon, they seemed pretty similar but I liked Jeonju better, it seems to have more to offer in the way of culture and environment. The hanok maeul (village of traditional-style Korean houses) was pretty. The "downtown" shopping district was small but seemed alright, it was like a baby version of Myungdong. I think the nightlife in Jeonju is mostly concentrated around Cheonnam University, and it's kinda like a baby version of Sinchon.

Jeonju is small but it's a fine place. They're known for having good food and nice people compared to some other parts of Korea. There are also some nice mountains nearby. But you will probably know almost all the foreigners in Jeonju within like two weeks of being there, haha.

If you really like big cities, I guess you should wait for a job in Seoul or Busan or maaaaaaybe Daegu. But having a great job in Jeonju is probably better than having a horrible job in Seoul.

Thanks for the replies everyone, maybe this city wouldn't be so bad.

What's the dating like there? How's the attitude toward foreigners in a mid-sized city like that?

Ha, i've started a thread asking the opposite!

Jeonju is great. I lived there for over three years and thinking of going back. The best thing is the foreigner scene. Things can get stale c quick;lly compared to seoul, but the social scene more than makes up. Have a look at the jeonju hub, posted above. I'm actually on the back page!

Food is great, night life is great, koreans are cool to the foreigners. You'll do a lot worse than go here mate.

The Deep In is the first place you want to head to. It's in the downtown area. Have a look on the jeonju hub posted above, it will tell you everything you need to know about jeonju.

Hey. I'm starting a position in March teaching Elementary and Junior High through Woosuk University. Though I'm not sure if I'm teaching at Woosuk University in Sam-Rye or at some Elementary Schools in Jeonju. I'm really hoping my apartment and schools are in Jeonju city itself and not in Sam-Rye county. Anyone heard of teachers working at elementary schools through Woosuk University in Jeonju City itself?? Jeonju seems like a great a city to live in from what I've read. Thanks
