This is the last form I need to fill out before heading to Korea in 2 weeks. I am looking through this and it seems a bit complicated. I am from the US/california...anyone had any experience filling out this form? Any complications? This form exempts me from paying Korean income tax? Does this mean I need to pay U.S income taxes when I return to the states (for the income earned in Korea)?
Thanks! |

The short answer is that you will not be penalized for using the Korean tax exemption. It really does not prevent you from qualifying for the Foreign Income Exclusion. So, assuming that you are going to work at a public school or university, by all means, file the Form 8802. Finally, I have been researching the details of the requirements for both the Foreign Income Exclusion and the Certificate of Residency. So, I suggest that you take a look at the thread below.
