so another poster brought up phantom menace. and so I watched Phantom yesterday and Attack of the clones today.

And all I can think of is that these are two of the worst movies ever made.

So here are my top 5 worst sci-fi movies--post release of the original star wars

battlefield earth (I have only ever seen 14 mins of it, but that was enough)
attack of the clones
phantom menace
the postman
independence day ( i hate will smith)

oh man, i LIKED the postman.

i thought the cube was pretty bad, if that counts as scifi. it's a cult classic, but whatever.

wing commander

i havent seen em, but the starship troopers sequels released straight to DVD would probably be pretty bad.

post release of the original star wars though..that's 30 years to work with. i am sure you can find worse scifi than the star wars prequels (and cube for that matter)

I dunno man.

Those movies might suck, but I'm not sure if they're really that Sci-fi.

I can pretty much watch and enjoy any scifi or comedy movie and enjoy it. It's my gift.

that's more of a curse I think.....

anyway, there are so many to qualify.... I'd have to sneak the 2002 Solaris in there somewhere.... with the future as designed by "The Sharper Image" and then seeing George Clooney eat Ramen noodles naked from the back in bed..... well, let's just say "The future isn't what it used to be...." thank goodness!

I've seen all the movies listed so far and they are masterpieces compared to Battlefield Earth.

It had cavemen become ace fighter pilots in 1,000 year old harrier jump jets after an hour or so of flight simulator training! It was so bad, the scientologists had roaming van loads of scientologists attend screenings to make it look more successful. It still bankrupted the production company. John Travolta described it as "like Star Wars, only better." Jon Stewart described it as "a cross between Star Wars and the smell of ass." It was released in 2000 and the NY Times wrote, "It may be a bit early to make such judgments, but Battlefield Earth may well turn out to be the worst movie of this century." It swept the Razzies that year winning 7 of them.

I am surprised that none of you have mentioned 2012.

My list of the 5 worst sci-fi movies:
(1) Battlefield Earth
(2) 2012
(3) ?
(4) The Day After Tomorrow
(5) Johnny Mnemonic

Hey I liked Johnny Mneunomic.

I also liked Willow. Ron Howard is a fine fine director I tell you. Well sometimes anyway.

"Contact" is pretty disliked due its terrible ending.

I found MIB 2 to be a big stinker (and I agree with gay in korea about Will Smith. Very few movies with him in are watchable).

I think people are too hard on "Battlefield Earth" because they know it was made by scientologists and went into the movie eager to hate it. I think scientology is a load of crap too, but I really thought that movie was just ordinary suck, not superlative suck. The plot was basically the same as countless other movies where the humans have to regain their freedom from their alien overlords. The acting was not great, but I've seen worse.

Good call on 2012. I still haven't finished it.

What was the one that had Joey from "Friends" in it, "Lost in Space?" That was terrible. Really terrible.

The film's name was 'Johnny Mnemonic'. Did not dig it.

We need some criteria to work with, such as was it a big feature film or straight-to-dvd, B-movie, for kids...blah blah.

Do you consider 2012 a sci-fi film?

Some bad ones:
Aeon Flux
Ultraviolet
Super Mario Bros.

I liked the Postman. How can you not like a character with the name "Ford Lincoln Mercury"?

My list, not in any particular order:

Evolution
Star Trek insurrection
Time Line (I read the book before the movie. BIG MISTAKE. Movie was god awful)
Does D-War count?

Personally, I think that Will Smith has gotten better as an actor as he has aged especially in his more recent movies. Also, I happened to like Independence Day.
