I had been having problems with my laptop for the past few months with it rejecting USB devices. I even brought to the AS center TWICE without them trying this simple fix:

Could be the issue of USB 1 and USB 2? Just wondering.

Just right click on the device and select " explore" . YOu'll never have a problem opening and accessing through this manner..

PS. In order to avoid that with the same device, you'll have to reformat the stick otherwise.

You brought it to the AS center TWICE without unplugging it?

Yes, you moron. It's a laptop. The battery was still in, so the motherboard still had juice.

However, in the meantime. I just connected my iPhone to the computer, and the problems have reoccurred. Very frustrating cos I can't use my mouse and have to use the touchpad. Any ideas? I don't want to have to turn off my computer after every time I connect my iPhone.

Ah, yes, I'm the moron because you never disconnected the power supply, which is step number 1 for doing any work on any computer.

I see your point. I thought you were implying it was impossible for me to bring the computer to the AS center without unplugging it.

Anyway, for people who don't know a lot about computers, it isn't really that obvious to unplug it. It makes sense now that I've read a reason for it, but I hadn't actually thought of it before. Obviously, that trick works for things like cable boxes and routers, but it just hadn't occurred to me. Judging by the comments on that link, I'm not the only one!

Anyway, the problem has reoccurred. Does anyone have any experience of iPhones and USB ports having issues? I don't think it's an issue of USB 1 and 2 cos it's a pretty new computer (about 6 months old). AS center people are obviously bigger morons than me if THEY never thought of taking out the power supply!!

I know nothing about iphones, sorry, but I vaguely recall hearing something about USB problems caused by syncing itunes. Hope that helps.

I had a similar problem, which i googled: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=usb+ports+not+recognized

So what I did was disconnect the power supply and battery, went to bed, and plugged it in in the morning.

USB ports were fine.

PCs f**k with your head sometimes eh?
