Quote:
The Android 2.0-based MOTOROI is an impressive little handheld, featuring a 3.7-inch HD WVGA touchscreen display (480 x 854 resolution), up to 8 GB storage (plus microSD support up to 32 GB), HDMI-out, 3.5mm earphone jack, and support for T-DMB television tuning.

A real highlight on this smartphone is its camera power. The MOTOROI totes an 8-megapixel camera with Xenon flash plus 720p HD recording ability. The camera has a collection of preloaded functions, including red-eye reduction, camera shake reduction, panorama, face detection and multi-shot (6 shots in a row).

Then theres the usual Google collection of apps (Gmail, Talk, Maps, etc.), plus Microsoft and PDF document viewer and a program called Optical Character Recognition, which scans, translates and reads business cards, then storing the information to the phonebook.

It also has an FM tuner and real GPS. Coming within the next couple weeks. I've read that the price is similar to the Iphone. 900,000w if you buy it straight up. Much cheaper with a plan.

Any news on how open the contracts will be to foreigners?

Unless SK changes its policy towards foreigners, the situation won't be much different than the iPhone experience has been. The only advantage is that you might be able to get one more easily if you put down a cash deposit, as that is SK's current policy for foreigners.

It took KT like 3-4 weeks to clear up their phone policy to foreigners.

I think SK will go through the same process. Then again, one of the major reasons KT kept fudging things up was because they were selling more Iphones than they could get in stock.

I don't think that will be the same case with the Motoroi. You should be able to walk up to an SK store and buy one on launch day.

I have no doubt foreigners can get a contract with SK. Its all a matter of how much money you are willing to put down for it. I would definitely go and get one at an authorized SK store, and not a phone booth.

I went to the store where they had a demo phone set up, not for sale but just to play with.

They were seemingly willing to sell me to phone with a 200,000 or 300,000 won deposit. (forget which one) but since it syncs through the KT websites, I was reluctant to buy it. I haven't had a lot of luck doing anything with any Korean websites as they won't accept the ID associated with my E-2.

How did you like the phone? I am strongly considering replacing my current phone with the Motoroi when my current cell phone contract expires in July.

Anyone wanting to get a Motoroi should wait a few weeks before pulling the trigger. There just isn't enough known about this phone. The specs are fantastic. How's the phone's real life battery life? How's the 3G performance? Is it buggy? How's fast is it?

I've been thinking strongly of grabbing an IPhone, but now I'm leaning towards getting this, or waiting for an iPhone 4, if that ever makes it way over here.

Any idea if the Motoroi will have a good selection of apps when it is released? For example will I be able to get Facebook / Skype etc working on it?

It seems with the handwriting recognition, HD video and faster processor that it's at least a match for the current iPhone anyway, am I right? Don't really want to pull the trigger on a 2 year contract and be stuck with a white elephant!

I'm in the same boat, really. I'm holding off on either this or the iPhone. Facebook and Skype will both work on this. It is an Android phone and there are apps for both of those. It's a very confusing time to be buying smartphones.

Some compelling reasons to get an Android phone. I love the App that will automatically put your phone to vibrate when you go to a certain area.

Check out more here:

I really wish Iphone had a sounds manager. I hate how game volume, music volume, movie volume, ringer volume, earpiece volume are all integrated. Sometimes Apps use the Ringer volume level. Other Apps go by the Ipod volume level.

Will Android do Flash?

That's the main reason why I'm not so excited about dumping my I-touch for an I-phone.

Google search says it is coming soon to Droid. Which is basically this with a physical keypad.

The Motoroi has a big ad campaign all over Naver. I can see this being a hot item to have amongst Korean folk.

When the iPhone was released here I was looking for a new phone and PMP. The iPhone along with its apps store was a seller for me.

I would love an Android phone but the Korean phone companies and providers had their asses up their heads for too long.

Will the Motoroi sell well here? Hard to say when I see so many Korean folk holding iPhones, which is a premium item to have.
