Call me ignorant, but up until now I wasn't really aware of the fact that there are a lot of other towns/cities connected to Seoul's subway system (besides Suwon, Incheon and Bukhansan anyways).

So, with one month left in Seoul, can you guys recommend some nice places to visit on the subway system? I don't have the money to pay for train tickets and hotels, so I thought I'd check out the cities that can be reached by subway and make it a nice daytrip. I'm still amazed by the extensive subway system here, I'll sure miss it when I head home for a while Crying or Very sad

So, what about Guri, Ansan, Asan, Ilsan, etc., etc. Any tips, suggestions, 'don't go there's' are very welcome^_^

Korea has many interesting places which are worth visiting. Korea's public transport system is very cheap and reliable.

Why limit yourself to Seoul and the surrounding areas?

The entire Seoul metro is pretty much concrete jungle with a few crowded mountains between. If you want to see cool and interesting stuff get out of the Seoul area. If you want to see more PCbangs, massage parlors, crowds of people and restaurants, then feel free to visit all of Seoul's suburbs.

Honestly, Seouls suburbs are suburbia. Not too interesting. Just go down to the southern part of the country for a nice trip.

The most distant cities connected to the Seoul Metro are Cheonan and Asan. Suwon is on the way to Cheonan and is of course connected by the Metro. Suwon has a fortress with huge walls and turrets that are very intact and is quite nice to walk around. Cheonan has a museum you can go to, although figuring out which bus you take outside of the Metro to get there can be difficult.

You can go quite far out a couple of lines. Going north on line 3 will take you up to goyang and beyond.
I went to Goyang in September for a hockey game, and while I didn't have a lot of extra time to look around, it was small town-ish, nice view.

Stay on line 1 long enough and you'll hit several small towns.

If you take the Gyeongui line all the way up, you'll get to Munsan, which is in spitting distance of North Korea. From there, you can go to Mount Dora Observatory or Imjingak. Both well worth it to see.
