I've had my ears pierced since I was 12, and i'm a guy.
I havn't wore earrings in about 2 years but I just put them back in 2 days ago. And i've had like 3 people ask me in indirect and subtle ways if I am gay.
"Do you like women?"
"Uhh, you know I heard that an earring in the right means the gay."
"Sometimes do tha gay man get earring?"
I'm not gay. Is a straight man wearing earrings in Korea really that strangey? It's been an onslaught of gay accusations. |

Not sure why you'd get those questions unless you give off a gay vibe. A surprising number of my male students have earrings, and I'm pretty sure most, if not all of them, are not gay. |

My kids don't think it's gay. Men can wear one. One side or the other. Never both. We're out in the country though, so ymmv. |

I've got them in both ears and I seriously think that in Korea it represents being gay. Based on the comments i've gotten it's pretty clear. I don't really care and i'll leave them in either way though.
The students think it's cool and one told me I look like a rock star. The adults are acting strange about it though. |

Don't mean you're a homosexual, but it is gay to wear one.
Tell them you're a metro-sexual. |

I can't pass as a metrosexual. My clothes are too old and beat up my hairstyle is far from fashionable. I am rebelling against the materialism around here by being a funky mo fo.
I don't mind gay people. But metro-sexuals really suck (no pun intended). |

In most of the US, you'd get some pretty strange looks too. I've never worked in an American school that allowed male teachers to wear their piercings, but you may be from a more enlightened place. |

Of course earrings aren't gay, but some people seem to think they are.
It might be a cool strategy in a Jack Tripper, closet heterosexual sort of way to wear them in Korea. All straight foreign males in Korea can wear earrings in both ears so nobody will believe the Korean Klux media when they show pictures and videos of us out having fun with the women and say we're womanizers. Korean guys won't feel like we're taking "their" women and throw a temper tantrum when they see us with a Korean lady. |

I've lived in several states and never encountered that. Although I they were all fairly liberal. Where are you from, the South or the Midwest?
In my schools most of the male teachers had long hair and earrings and were half-stoned talking about crazy subversive politics. Ahh I miss it. I hate conservative, uptight culture. |

What kind of earrings are we talking about? If they're Hello Kitty or lil' hearts, then yes. Anything normal, then no. |

I used to wear earrings and never got inquired about my sexuality. I never wore them to work, though. In fact, the reason I stopped wearing them is to look more professional as I age. The holes should still be there for when my midlife crisis hits. |

I taught in four states, and I'm from the midwest. The dress code was office-casual, jeans on Fridays unless you're the art teacher, no smoking in the coach's can, etc. |

I like earrings on men, gay or straight.
Just no danglers, though |
