Native to North Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, belly dancing is based on one of the oldest social dances in world history.

"This dance form persists because of its all-inclusive nature. In my opinion, it belongs to no one and to no place. We who dance it are merely keepers of an ancient flame that ties us all together in the freedom to celebrate the melding of body, mind and spirit that keeps Bellydance so alive and vibrant."

"Belly dancers enter a room with presence, proud of what their bodies can do and what they communicate. By learning how to belly dance, women can understand how to better love themselves and express themselves through movement. Furthermore, dancers can communicate their transformations to their audience and allow the audience to be transformed as well." - Jean Putz from Belly Dancing: The Sensual Art of energy and Spirit
