Anyone else heading out of Korea for the homeland with absolutely no job prospects, 4 grand in the bank, and not willing to move back in with mom and dad? It's exciting!

To spice it up, 20000 jobs were lost last month in the USA! BOOYAHHH!!

I am so excited! I can't wait! It's an adventure!

That's the problem with ESL teaching. If you have substantial college debt payments and credit card payments, the only place you can really thrive teaching abroad is Korea. Everywhere else in the world, you barely survive WITHOUT loan payments and credit card payments. Isn't that a shame?

We can't help. Do you think we'd be in Korea if we were able to land jobs as CEOs in our own country?

My tip - network network network. You will get a job if you have the right connections. If you don't have them you won't. Simple as that. There are literally loads of people that apply en mass to positions advertised on the web. The best positions aren't advertised.

My best advice would also be to stay in Korea. You'll be lucky to flip burgers at home.

Yeah, moving back in with the parents is not a desirable option. I left 8 months ago and I will be going back at beginning of June this year. I'm sure it will be hard to find a job in my field (web developer/graphic designer) and I definately want to get started with my actual career before it's too late (turning 24 in July). If I can't see any signs of job prospects, I may just return to Korea to work at a middle school and do some study during my extensive seat warming hours.

I could just come back to Korea after a few months of spending the 4,000 dollars on western food and microbrews. Then, come back and find a job in Itaewan. Dedicate the next 12 months to literally drinking myself retarded. Then be sent back to America to live out my days in a government sponsored home for the handicapped.

For most of us, I think going back into the work force means pursuing more education. I'll be saving up as much as I can in Korea until I figure out just what I'd like to study and I have enough money to support myself while I pursue it.

Also, research hard what you pursue. Check out job listings for whatever you want to get trained in. I moved back thinking I'd take a paralegal course - bad idea. Six months later I was back in Korea with really nothing to show for it except spending a year's worth of Japan/Korea savings.
