-Bossam (steamed pork).
-Various leaves.
-Kimchi
-Salad with pepper dressing
-Soup. Not 100% sure what the soup was. Seafood based with a few oysters.
-Obligatory white rice.

This was the lunch today at my main school. It is usually of a fairly consistent quality, but today was of a very high standard. I'm a pork fanatic, so this was right up my alley. The leaves, kimchi, danjang(?), pork combo, is about as close to heaven as school food gets.

Nutritionally sound (imo) as well. No refined carbs, plenty of fat (feel free to debate that as being good, if you please), and quite a lot of fresh veg for a Korean meal.

I would happily pay for this in a (cheap) restaurant. 8.9/10*

Feel free to add your school lunch for today.

*Please remember that school food is tested under a different rubric to meals from a restaurant, or that you would prepare at home.

A few rice cakes, two teaspoons of Kimchi, some green stuff, and a soup that looked like it had turnips and dog meat in it. Altogether, it was more substantial than the scrapings from the bottom of the pans that were tossed at me on the 3 other occasions the cafeteria had any food for me.

As a bonafide kuishinbo (as my ex used to call me), I love this thread!

Today:
- Bibimbap
- Kimchi
- Rice
- Ace 400 Yogurt drink
- Egg soup

My school typically serves up decent food. Not the biggest fan of bibimbap (looks like my vomit after a few too many), so this meal was a bit disappointing, especially for a Winter meal.

The egg soup was just that--egg dropped into a weak broth.

I would never order this meal at a restaurant. I'd give it a 5/10.

It might have gotten a 6 if one of the school admins hadn't grabbed my second Ace 400 to add to the 3 she'd already pounded down.

Looking forward to more reviews!

Bibimbap is a joke. I can handle the egg soup 'cos it's packed full of protein. The broth is usually anchovy broth.

Kim Chi
Pickled Zucchini
Mystery Meat Steamed Dumplings
ChajangMyun
Egg Drop Soup

Meh.

Korean lunch needs more fresh fruit and more green leafy vegetables like the Spinach they do.

But I like how at least 3 meals a week never have anything fried in them.

WAAYYYY better than cafeteria lunch back home which never had fresh fruit or vegetables and was always something ridiculously unhealthy.

Compared to the food you might get back in Canada or the states I would say that school food here is pretty damn great.

It is far more healthy and balanced than french fries and sloppy joes.

Most of your lunches sound pretty good. I usually get gristly chicken or other meats drenched in a pool of syrup as the main.

but it's a decent value for the 2000 won/meal or whatever they take from me each month.

Galbitang with plenty of tender meat
Fresh chonggak kimchi
Sukjunamul (those bean sprouts with yellow heads)

All pretty phenomenal, though if you don't like kimchi or bean sprouts you wouldn't like this meal.

My school lunches are generally decent. I've never had a really bad one but frequently have delicious ones.

I cancelled my meal card so I could eat out for my last month here. The last meal I remember having was the average:

-Rice
-Seaweed
-Kimchi
-Spam loaves
-Dokbokki
-Fishy, red soup with crushed up bones in it

I didn't eat the Spam or fishy soup of course.

Only thing I don't like is when they try to make western food. Cold hamburgers with sweet buns, horrible spagbog terrible salads. The korean food tends to be pretty good

Definitely over here in comparison to Japanese public school means too. Meals are inedible sometimes over there from my experience. Korean PS meals are like a feast believe it or not in comparison.

Bear in mind that's not the only issue. Even if I wanted to go out to eat everyday, there aren't any restaurants around my school.
