I bought a nintendo in the UK and have brought it back to Korea. When I plug it into the TV, the sound works but the screen is blank. Does anyone have any idea about fixing the problem?

my only guess is it might be like some dvd players..if it's a PAL wii then it might not work with an NTSC tv. i'm sure there must be converters of somet ype...you should post htis on the technology forum though

converters do exist, and they can probably be found in Yongsan, though I imagine it would be quite difficult for someone that doesn't speak Korean to be able to find such a thing, since just wandering around I-Park, Etland, and Najin (sp?) isn't going to work, you'll need to specifically ask shopkeepers.

are you plugging it in using the composite cable or the component cable? The one with a single yellow, or the one with the 3 video cables?

If you have the Wii softmodded, you can force video settings when playing NTSC games on a PAL system and vice versa. That would probably solve your problem.

Hi everybody,

Thought I'd revive this general Wii thread with a few questions about my Canadian Wii. I'll be bringing it over to South Korea in a few days and I want to pick up some new hardware when I get there. Most importantly I want to get a Korea Power supply so that I don't risk blowing the Canadian one and won't have to waste my converter [I'd like a DS one as well]. Where can I get stuff like this? How much would it cost?

My Wii isn't modded and I don't intend on modding it so I'm wondering what the best avenue is for getting Can/US games. Anybody import? Any import retailers in Korea?

Lastly I'll probably want to pick up some new controllers over there, specifically a classic controller [or classic pro], and maybe an arcade stick. So my question is- Do Korean [or even Japanese] controllers work with Canadian Wii?

Sort of unfortunate that I'll be living so close to Japan [where most of the games I'm looking forward too come out first] and I have to import from America...which will take even longer...

You should also know that I'll be in Busan so if anybody knows of anything in Busan or close to it that'd be more helpful than something in Seoul, but that'll still work.

Thanks!

A better question is: Why anyone would want to play a Wii?

That really isn't a better question at all. Wii has a ton of good software on it for all demographics. If you're a 13 year old racist though I could see how the allure of generic shooters and online competition could be exciting. I have a PC for games too, so unless you have anything constructive to offer I'd appreciate if you just didn't waste my time.

I have just bought a PAL Wii, and as far as I can tell, these are the options for getting it to work in Korea.

1. Buy a 'multi-system' TV. I came across these on the internet and I have no idea how available they are in Korea, if at all. I've also read that all new TVs can handle PAL and NTSC, but I don't know how much truth there is in that.

2. Buy a signal converter. A cheap solution, but I have my doubts as to how effective they are. I suspect the picture quality would be rubbish.

3. Mod the Wii. I've no idea if it's possible to turn a PAL Wii into an NTSC Wii. Nothing I've found on the internet indicates that anyone has done this.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Get your Wii modded. Then you can force NTSC on your games.

Is there any way to get a Wii bought in Korea to display English menus?

Would the mod also convert the signal sent from the console itself? What you are describing seems to work if you already have an NTSC console but your games are PAL. I have a PAL console, PAL games, but an NTSC TV.

I think buying a 'multisystem' TV is the preferable option, as I need a new TV anyway. Anyone seen these available in Korea?
