hi, i'm planning on shipping stuff back home after 2 years of living in korea. what would be the best way to ship boxes of clothing and shoes back home to the USA? i'm thinking regular postal service and having them ship it by boat. any other suggestions or options? thanks.

I would like to know the answer to this, as well. I have heard that you can ship things the "slow boat" via the regular postal service for a really good price. I am leaving in June, after having spent 6 years here, and know that my things won't fit in 2 suitcases! lol

shove it on a pallet and slow boat it

you'll have to contact a major shipper and it's your responsibility from and to the dock on both sides with anyone other than ups or fedex or dhl

If you have enough stuff, contact a shipper.

I sent everything home surface in #5 boxes. It was about 30,000 won for 20 kilos. They arrived in between one and two months. They will be banged up, so tape well!

which shipping service did you go with? 30,000 for 20 kilos sounds like a bargain! did everything arrive or did you have any trouble with customs? thanks.

as an adjunct to this thread, I'd like to ask if anyone knows which airline has the maximum luggage allowance and for how many bags/lbs, kilos?

I called Korean Air to get their price on baggage weight limits.

You get two checked bags that can weigh 24 kilos each. Plus a carry on that can be 12 kilos. That's 60 kilos right there.

You can add one extra bag for W135,000 and it can weigh 32 kilos. 92 kilos total is a lot of weight and it'll be better taken care of than with slow boat. Plus you don't have to wait two months to get it.

I've been here 3 years. I've collected a lot of stuff, but I'm almost certain I can get it in those bags. If not, pack as much as possible, then air ship a super light, smaller box that will get there in like a week or so.

That's my plan.

I shipped 20Kgs to NZ from the regular post office a couple of years ago for 60,000. Twice what the others have found going to a shipping company, but it was door to door (well, once I got it to the post office). Unless I was wanting to send furniture I'd go that way again.
