Can AFN be seen with just an antenna, or do I have to buy cable?

I was getting it in somewhat before -- maybe it was bleed-thru from another person's cable or something?

Since I tried Sky TV and then quit Sky TV, it doesn't come in on it's own (no more lucky bleed-through).

No antenna needed. You just need a good TV that can pick up the signal. It is also available on cable. You need to be near a military base to pick up the signal without cable service however.

You would need a TV with a UHF antenna. Not all of them in Korea can get UHF signals.

What cable is AFN offered on? Along the same lines, what cable is Star World on?

Don't you find AFN to be absolute sh!te? The ads are sh!te, the programs are generally sh!te and it makes me want to kill anyone who has ever appeared in one of those horrendous commercials.

Stay away from it. Buy a playstation and keep your sanity.

AFN is not in business to make money. It's a service for military members. The content is not for you to understand. So what if it's silly! If the commercials make you sick, why then do you watch them?!?!? Go figure. Same with the programming. Don't watch them! Programming is chosen by what the majority want to watch and well as networks donating programs for military members. Go back home if you want a better choice of shows.
As for what channel AFN is on.... each area of korea has it's own cable service companies and so the channels differ from area to area. Seoul? Cable channel 29. I have not seen Star World on korean cable yet? Star Sports, yes...

AFN is available on some local cable systems. Frequencies for specific locations are here: http://www.afnkorea.com/freqs.htm

If you're getting cruddy reception, signal boosters are cheap. I pay for Skylife myself. It has plenty of English language movies and excellent digital audio.

Starworld isn't on skylife, as far as I know. We have every channel possible.

I really wish it had Discovery channel. Why does the cable have it and the skylife not? argh.

anyway....

I dumped Skylife some time ago.... not worth the 18,000 won for the "family" package, since there just aren't enough English channels. Billions of Korean ones, though. If I were Korean, it would be a good deal.

Yeah, no discovery channel! And History channel is in Korean... grrrr!

I also hate having to buy a "box" -- yet another remote control, and it's SLOW.
