So if there were two people left in the world, you and a tattoo artist, and he was gonna die soon, you'd get a tattoo that nobody would ever see? Why not save a few bucks and buy a camera. You can take pictures of all sorts of things and carry them around with you.

Thats ridiculous.......... I wouldn't pay him. Isn't he going to die soon?

Some people get tattoos soley for other people to "look" at. I gather its the tribal arm band/barbwire crowd. I have always wanted one, but never figured out something that was worth getting, and meaningful. Now that I have, I'm in Korea. So I can't get one.

All my brothers have their ear pierced- got it done back in the 80's.
My mother thought it would be cool if I did the same, but I stubbornly refused because I didn't feel right about it. I knew some guys back in high school who did when it became fashionable and they were all called faggots and taunted for it.
I don't know, I really think earings are meant for the ladies.

So in other words, if nobody else saw it, you wouldn't get the tattoo. That means it's not for you. It's for everyone else to see. To say otherwise is disingenuous.

Earrings=gay?

On a man, left, right or both nipples pierced is a 100% sign of gayiety.
On a woman, one is cute but can make breastfeeding a messy experience.

maybe the benefit is THEY like it

Please be honest. You wear them for other people, not yourself. You don't walk around with a mirror in your hand. You don't check yourself out in store windows. You can't see your own ears. Your piercings don't make you feel any better. You're not doing this for yourself. You're doing it for other people. If you were doing it for yourself, there would be some kind of reward, and that just isn't the case here.

I will be completely honest. When I first decided to get one, there was an "element" of doing it for others. in the sense that I decided I wouldn't be viewed a certain way and preferred the other way.

However, now I couldn't care less what others may think. I quite like it on myself and have since I've put it on. I'm sure the fact many girls have liked it feeds this self satisfaction and if the reaction from the opposite sexd were negative I may reconsider, but I admitted that in my original post.

If you're a little older, you may recall that Michael Jordan started wearing a diamond stud earring before most , if any other NBA guys did. He also started wearing longer shorts in games instead of staying in those tighties that rode all the way up their crotches.

You may want to ask him his motives as well.

by the way I happen to like MY particular earring, as opposed to many of the other earrings out there. If I had to switch to one of the many I don't care for, then I'd take it out entirely.

Well this guy is obviously from some place that's full of rednecks and people over 50. He said midwest, so there you have it.

Much of the Midwest is not redneck at all. Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, Minneapolis...these places are quite progressive actually. That is the upper-midwest though. If you go to the plains or to the southern midwest it could be and is a much different story. Hell, Milwaukee has had 12 Socialist mayors for gods sake. This is also where the progressive movement started.

Yes. May Day, the Commie holiday, started as a result of the Haymarket Riot (May 1st) in Chicago during the late 19th Century. Milwaukee has long been a center of progressive thought, creating the term 'sewer socialism'. Madison Wisconsin is home to Bob LaFollette and one of the most liberal college campuses in the nation. Eugene Debs came out of Indiana to represent striking Pullman workers in 1898 in Chicago. The modern progressive movement was by and large a movement created in the Midwest.

Yep. Illinois and Wisconsin are the only two states (D.C. also) in the country which do no allow concealed carry of a gun in any form. In Chicago you are not allowed to even own a handgun, whether it is locked in your house or not. It is possibly the strictest gun policy in the country, or at least one of the strictest. Unfortunately it doesn't do much for safety since the people who are of most danger with a firearm can easily have them moved from a state which is much more lenient.

Chicago has a pretty good 'wink and nod' culture when it comes to guns if you live in the right neighborhood. I have owned a shotgun since I was 15 and my dad has a few hunting guns in the house as well. I think it's just handguns that are 'banned'.

And by right I mean 'white'. Sad but true.

Agreed. I'd own a gun. I believe you're right that it is only handguns which are banned, though if you owned one prior to the law you can have it "grandfathered", and thus it is legal. You speak the truth. An alderman was found in the Chicago river of apparent suicide from his own handgun, which he owned illegally. Hey, it's the Chicago-way.

Where in the city did you live? If I lived in certain neighborhoods ( pilsen, humboldt etc) I'd own one for sure.

Earrings aren't as feminine as shaving off facial hair. But neither is gay unless a dude is doing it specifically to attract other men.

Without being too specific, I grew up on the far South Side. So yeah, gun city. Really it was my dad who had the armory. I have a shotgun but haven't used it since I was 19 and that was just for skeet shooting (which is awesome btw).

I've also lived in Logan Square and Chinatown as well but again, stayed gun free.
