| I'll be in Chungbuk with my girlfriend, and agree on the gym sentiment. I also hope that transportation to Daejeon is easy, in order to spend the occasional weekend in Seoul and summer ones in Busan. Love the beach. |

| That's nice that your girlfriend can come with you. Will she be teaching as well? |

I definitely agree that having access to a quality gym would be a great thing. Barring that, decent weather and a nice hiking trail might be just as good for me.
If we get placed outside the big cities in Chungbuk, the Rural Allowance of 100000 won we get each month will basically be a Bordom Bonus. Though I think we'll be using that money to pay for transportation to get to bigger cities on the weekends and holidays. |

| How considerate of them! One week isn't really enough time to get your visa. I hope everything works out for you. |

| Ugh, I know. They couldn't have cut it closer if they tried. The consulate is being really nice about though and say that they can rush my visa through so it might all work out |

Congrats on getting your gig, kated! I hope the timing of your visa works out! It took my consulate 7 days, but if they're rushing it through for you it should be alright. |

Hey all
I'm arriving at Incheon on Wednesday 17th at Incheon going to Jeonju after. Im pretty excited but also a little worried because I am totally flat broke! I am only taking 200 UKP with me as that is all I have - will this be okay for six whole weeks??? Bear in mind I eat very little and may just pass on buying drinks etc! Depressing but I have no choice - you guys think this will be enough to live on? If not I will just not go out anywhere!!!!! That is until I get paid I have no choice!

I got an international-working credit card about a year ago. I also have no money but I'll have that. Worry about it later, that's the American way! |

| Seems I remember something about a 300k won loan that is available upon request. Food at orientation is free and your transportation is free. I think if you don't mind ruffing it for a bit, you'll be fine. Good luck! |

Hi, I'm thinking about applying for EPIK September 2010 and I was wondering where I can hear about the experiences of those who've completed the EPIK program. I'm trying to pick which city I want, and I want to hear about what other people have to say. Are the fellow EPIKers in your city generally a big part of your social life? I saw a website that showed the job openings for 2010, and there were 160 for Busan, 80 for Daegu, 60 for Daejon, 50 for Gwangju, and the rest had far fewer openings. Is it a really tight nit group for the places with fewer openings, and less so for a place like Busan? And more importantly, does that matter?

Jcm87,
Be prepared to get on top of the paperwork ASAP and know that there will be a lot of waiting. The interview with EPIK over the phone is not a big deal, but as soon as you know you have passed, get the paperwork DONE if you haven't started it already. We got our docs in right before the deadline and got our contracts only 2 weeks before our departure date. We are set to leave on Feb. 17th so I can't tell you much about the experience in the city, but I can tell you that we received our second choice city of Daegu, first was Busan. Let me know if you have any other questions you think I could answer! AFKitty |

| Hey AFKitty-I'll definitely have some questions for you once you've been there a little while, especially since I was thinking Daegu might be my first choice. It's almost as big as Busan, and my guess is that since everyone wants to be in Busan, I'd have a better chance of getting into one of my top four choices (Busan, Daegu, Daejon, and Gwangju) if I chose one of the less popular ones. But I guess I'm not sure which of those cities would be the best, or even if I should be choosing a smaller city, like Jeonju (which I've heard good things about). Also, I'm really curious about the orientation process. How long does it last? Do you get a schedule before you get there? |
