Hi.

Im going to be teaching in central Seoul, in Yangson-Gu so I assume il be living reasonably close. Either way, are there many places to go for a jog in central Seoul as I wont be able to join a gym for a month, and most likely more than a month.

Im thinking somewhere safe too... a park or nice series of foot paths. I dont wanna run on the side of the road.

a bunch of us run along the river, its well marked and has water fountains (shut down now), restrooms and 7-11's.

there is a group called the seoul flyers (www.seoulflyers.com) that run every saturday morning between 7 and 8am. we meet at the 7-11 along the river near ichon station (near km marker 10.5) they also coordinate sign ups for races (35+ of us are running the seoul int marathon next month) its a good group that even tolerates us slowpokes.

if you dont think you'll have enough money to join a gym when you first get here, the hamilton hotel's fitness center in the middle of itaewon allows you to pay 5000 won/visit.

Thats really great information hogwonguy1979, thank you. The river sounds like a perfect place to run. The only reservations that I have for joining a group are that I am properly god-awful at running! :p

What I might do is get a little fitter, and then join a group so its not quite as embarrassing :p

Hightop: The reason I thought I wouldnt be able to go to a gym is because I assumed I would have to pay a years worth of fees in one chunk and with the money that im going out with, I wont be able to do it until my first or second pay check. Il certainly have a closer look at that 5k won/session gym tho Smile

ChrisGuy, at all the gyms I have been to here you can choose to pay for one, three six or 12 months at a time. Of course it is cheaper to pay for a year at a time but the gym I'm at now is 50,000 a month if you pay month to month. Actually I think it is quite good to pay for just one month so you can see if you like the place and if it sux you can change no problem. Most neighbourhoods have at least one or two gyms.
