Are you referring to geocaching? If so, I placed the first cache in Korea (although I didn't realize it at the time):

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=28258b00-e674-4a57-8c2c-fb338d786f33

A couple years ago, I had an e-mail from a Korean geocacher who told me about my distinction. So, a group of Korean geocachers organized a meeting in Gyeongju for food and caching. Unfortunately, I could not join them, due to a previous engagement.

I haven't done much since, but it was lots of fun when I did it.

Where have you gone? I have a small handheld GPS and was looking for someone to adventure with while Geocaching. I think it's just more fun to have someone with a knack for it to chat with and discuss things while tracking. Where are you? Have you done much of it here?

My friend Ryan made this site: http://foundatron.com/

My friend Ryan about his site:
After a couple years in of living in Japan and Korea, Ive grown tired of not being able to find places.
I made this site so people can share place locations in a format thats easy upload into a GPS device.
Devices like the Garmin Etrex allow the user to use direction and distance to find waypoints or places of interest. Wouldnt you love to walk out of a train station, and know how far away, and in which direction that one hard to find buddhist restaurant is? If you had a gps compass and the waypoint for the restaurant, you wouldnt have to fret.
This is my first blog so be patient if you run across any errors or something that is broken. If something really bugs you, send me an email and tell me how to fix it

He's got stuff all over Seoul. Check it out.

It's a nice site he's got there. It's really good that there's so many GoogleEarth files with stuff in English.

Has anyone seen a GoogleEarth file for Bucheon with information in English?

I'm in Bucheon and I've just gone searching for caches in and around Bucheon.

If you don't mind a little Korean, the Inavi UZ Personal Navigation System isn't bad. A 2gb model is just 169,000 or so.

http://gen.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=169914990&GoodsSale=Y&jaehuid=200002673

There is a 4gb model, which is around 200,000. On my other Inavi's, I found I could just buy the cheaper version, buy the bigger card myself and upgrade them by downloading the larger maps. Map upgrades are free, and come every 3 months.

I have a small handheld Garmin. It has a directional compass, so I just input the coordinates and follow the arrow. (once I drive close to where I think the cache is) and then seach for it. But thers not many people in Songtan that I know of that want to do this, even though there are caches in and around the city. I'm wanting to go to other places and track this stuff down and maybe after I get the hang of it, get people to sponsor a treasure hunt in Seoul or elsewhere in Korea. I think it woul dbe fun and increase participation or interest in the hobby.

I bought a '97 Geo Tracker when I graduated from university. I couldn't get financing on my own, so my boxing coach co-signed. He made me give him the spare key so that in the event that I missed a car payment, he could come and pick it up and drive it back to the lot! Pretty smart guy.

I meant Geocaching. Joe. But thanks for the deeply insightful and entertaining story about your car. Do tell us how it ended. Were you able to keep the car? I hate cliff hanger stories like yours. Um, having to guess, I'll go with...Car thieves stole your car because it was just so darned precious and you never saw it again and had to flee your conutry to avoid prosecution because you weren't able to make car payments.

In case anyone is considering the Korea map for Garmin, be warned that it's limited in detail and content, at least for Bucheon. It doesn't have most of the streets, just the major streets. And there are very few POIs. If you just want it for highway driving or generally getting around, i guess it's ok, but not for finding an address or a particular business.

I've started to trace the streets in GoogleEarth as vector lines so that I can upload that to my Garmin. The POIs are a bigger problem because I don't know where most of the good/interesting/noteworthy places in or around Bucheon are located. I can find a ton of stores and bars on GoogleEarth, but I have no idea which ones are worth going to or what type of stores/bars they are.

When I was leaving Canada, I had a buyer that was willing to take over the lease. The problem was, the buyer wasn't at all interested in the sweet rims I had on layaway.

So I signed over my Tracker... but just couldn't live with the idea of losing the $1,800 I had put toward my those $2,400 rims. So I did what any idiot would do... I sent $600 from my first Korean hogwan pay and got my rims off layaway.

And they've been at my grandmother's place, in their boxes, gathering dust for 9 years now.

Sad

Appreciating, I'm sure...
