|
|
Hi Everybody,
I am planning to move to Korea and I have 3-4 boxes, about 40 pounds each which I want to ship to Seoul.
I looked up the usual suspects (USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL) and the price came out to a lot more than I expected.
Does anyone have a shipper/mover they'd recommend?
Thanks in advance. |

If you are coming from the states then look for a freight forwarder, stick it on a pallet and send it. (there will have to be someone here to receive it or hope that you arrive before it does.)
There is no slow-boat, cheap mail option from the states anymore. |

It may be your best option to pay for a few extra pieces of luggage when you fly to Korea. |

I looked into this a few weeks ago. I got quotes from two freight forwarders for 3 totes totaling around 200lbs. The prices were astronomical. All were by air (I didn't have enough stuff to go by sea), and with all the duties, etc., I would have paid well over $500 for the shipment, which is way more than the combined total of all the goods shipped.
If you're looking to pay overweight charges on your luggage, check the airline website. The typical charge used to be $50 for up to 20lbs extra weight per piece of luggage (Korean Air still charges this, I believe). However, Delta is charging $150 for up to 20lbs extra weight per piece for international flights.
If you have small, heavy items, you can ship a prepaid USPS box, up to 20lbs, for $50. |

I flew from the U.S. to Israel to Korea. I paid the extra luggage fee to Israel, but once I was in Tel Aviv I sent the extra luggage (about 80 pounds) the rest of the way for $150 USD. They had a post office in the airport, so it was pretty easy. FWIW. |

That's awesome, Marina!
(Thinking about how to route all future trips to Korea through Israel...) |
