|
|
I'll be arriving in Korea next Saturday... I was hoping to use a MagicJack for phone service (I should be able to set up a "local" US number, therefore making it easier and cheaper for family to call me). The Magic Jack plugs into my USB port.... However, I have to plug a phone cord into the device as well... which obviously means plugging the other end into the wall. Soooo... it's only a safe assumption that Korea has different phone plugs. Am I right?
Has anyone had any success using a MagicJack in Korea???
If not, what do you use to call back to the States and what do your family and friends use to call you?
Thanks! |

I use magicjack here. It works okay. It's sold at many of the military exchange stores throughout Korea. |

I'll be in Namyangju... so a bit far from the nearest military base. But, I'll be bringing a MagicJack with me. Should I buy a phone here in the States to plug in or will a Korean phone work with MJ? |

Just buy a cheap cordless model. Check the power suppliy that comes with it to make sure it will fork in the 110~220 range or you'll have to buy a small transformer to power it. Korea uses 220 voltage so you may want to keep that in mind when you pack your electronics or you'll have to buy step down transformer power supplies on the economy (at a relatively low cost.) |

Are you talking about plugging a power cord into the wall?
I got a small wall mount style phone and it doesn't require external power, so there's no power plug involved. I just plugged the phone cord into the MJ adaptor and started making calls.
It's an easy way to go!

They use the same kind of phone jacks. It's easier just to buy any phone here from HomePlus or Emart... unless you want to be able to use it the day you arrive, then bring a phone with you and make sure you have a converter.
I brought a cordless phone with me and it worked great, but when I moved into a new apartment I forgot to plug the converter back in and I blew the phone. I went to Emart to buy a new cordless phone but they were all SUPER expensive (the cheapest was about 80,000 won). I ended up buying a cord phone, but it has a really long cord so now I'm rockin' like it's 1990 |
