Someone give me their opinions and let me know if its worth it.

My father is coming to visit me in Korea in April, and I am thinking of asking him to set up the slingbox before he comes so I can get a massive number of american channels here! It would be unbelievable to get Direct TV with 1000 channels on my big screen here in korea!

Slingbox is great, but unless you've got some ultrafantasticuber high speed connection on both ends I don't think it'll look at that great on a big screen.

I love mine as well. My in-laws dedicated a DirecTV box just for us so we can record everything we want. Sometimes the signal is a little bad, but it's usually due to bad weather or something where they are.

I would be curious about:

1) How much upload speed is needed on the slingbox end?
2) How much bandwidth is used in a month if you watched an hour or two a day?

I don't have exact figures, but if its only an hour or 2 a day and you have it on full resolution, you won;t be eating up too much bandwidth on each side...

When I had my slingbox in Canada, my allowance was only 90gb with my Rogers ISP. I was forced to my usage every day because I did alot of torrent downloading. I watched maybe 8 hours a week of slingbox, and it didnt even put a dent in my bandwidth (upload or download)...

If you are running it 8 hours a week, then I'd be concerned...

My Slingbox is in Washington state and my friends hosting it have Comcast cable and 56Mbps internet connections. Here in Korea, I stream from 600-1400Kbps depending on using wifi/ethernet. Anything above 400 looks fine on my 32" and 42" TVs

I'm thinking about setting up a slingbox at my sister's house in the states.

I've tried to watch video streams of tennis on my computer before and it was really horrible. Something about the size and speed of ball made it actually disappear on the computer screen. I don't really know the details of the streams I was watching; but if you watch tennis on your slingbox connection, can you see the ball?

Thanks

My dad set up a cable box and slingbox in his house as a going-away gift. Sometimes it's a little choppy, but it's wonderful.

You can watch it on your ipod touch or iphone as well, but the app costs $30, and has to be over wifi. It's possible. I haven't set it up on my ithing, but my friend back home watches tv during her lunch hour.

Are you guys using the HD Slingbox or the original Slingbox? Two of my friends have the original, and the picture is garbage. They may both have slow ISP's on their homeside, but I wouldn't pay unless the picture is equal to what's coming out on veetle right now.

Sling Box is nice... but HAVA Platinum WIFI puts it to shame.... I use it and I get HD quality from back in the states with Dish Network....
