Please let me know if you have experience with this:

I need to send my cat to Ottawa, but I'm not coming with him. Can I put him on the plane and have my friend pick him up on arrival? Do I need to be on the flight too?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry can't help you

but did anyone have images in their head of trying to stuff a cat in an envelope?

or taking the cat to the post office and asking for a box to mail the cat?

^

YES! ^^

Btw, it's definitely possible (but don't know the details - I know some people have shipped their pet through Dr. Pet in Gangnam for example). Check out www.animalrescuekorea.org, there's some info about that on there.

Maybe you could do like they do with magazines and just write the address directly to the cat and glue a few stamps to his forehead.

Be sure that he's used the litterbox just before he's weighted. You can save a bit when they calculate the postage by weight.

Yes, you CAN ship an animal by air freight without being on the same flight BUT there are some restrictions and possible quarantine for the animal.

I do NOT have the specifics (each airline is different for shipping) so contact the airline of your choice (Air Canada is probably your best bet since it will require a change of planes in Canada from the international flight to a domestic one if it is going to Ottawa).

Customs Canada also will tell you what you SPECIFICALLY need and need to do when shipping your animal (to clear in and get through customs and quarantine ).

Our cat traveled from Los Angeles to Santiago, Chile by herself without a problem....just call the cargo department of any airline (it is probably best to find one that flies as direct as possible) and they will be able to walk you through it.

There should not be a quarantine period for Canada...you just need someone to pick up your cat at the cargo terminal.

Thanks everyone (especially ttompatz - nice to know you're still around)!

I'll contact Air Canada & Korean Air and get the info from them.

Thanks everyone?

Most of us were just imagining you shoving a cat in a box and taking it to the post office, or at the post office asking the lady for a box while the cat is scratching you Laughing

Most of us were useless

I too read the title and thought perhaps it was some kind of taxidermy relic. Titles of threads are so important I think.

I shipped my cat solo from Taiwan to Korea. Only problem was picking him up. Not speaking Korean, it took me two days to hunt him down in the Cargo area of Incheon airport.... That's a BIG BIG area with no English. By the time I found him he was drenched in his own urine.
