So I'm trying to come to terms with the crap that gets put on the 'big' stations here. I don't have the knowledge of the economics of Korean tv. I don't know anything about market research, either.

But Rambo vs Steven Seagal. How is a guy supposed to choose?

There is a constant stream of crappy action flicks that get aired, so I am going to assume that they are popular and draw viewers. But do they really draw viewers all 22 times that "Under Siege 2" is shown? Or is a matter of the can play it at such a low cost that it is guaranteed to generate revenue?

Part of the reason I'm posting is that the other day I saw an intelligent film on Korean TV. And that is a very rare occurrence, not that "Universal Soldier: The return," doesn't have its merits. But at 2 am they were Showing "Good Night, and Good luck." And it was airing on XTM of all channels!!!!

And I'm trying to understand how an oscar nominated movie with a star cast can be played at 2am, because it must have some kind of cost tied to it. Do people stay up THAT late here that it's a time slot that might generate revenue?

I should also ask, since I haven't been home in a while, what's playing on the big american, british, canadian stations these days? Is this crap being shown everywhere, or is it more of a korea thing?

I dunno. How many viewers do you think TBS got when it showed The Shawshank Redemption for the 200th time last year?

As far as I can tell cable movie channels must buy films in packages and get the rights to pay them so many times, because any cable movie channel I've seen tends to have quite a few movies that might have been popular or slightly popular at some time that they play absolutely to death.

They probably just order a bunch of movies and have a computer make up a schedule.

When I was growing up, I can remember Bull Durham being on a weekly basis, which sucked, because we only had 13 channels and on the weekend your choices were news, 11 channels of golf or bull durham for the 100th time.

I don't know why people with access to the internet would really be watching movies on TV though..

Don't fret! I believe we are also back to Seaoson 1 of Sex and the City again. This is, what, the 6th or seventh time around?

Thank heavens Mu Han Do Jeon is on 3 times a day, and the same comedians can be seen spitting water on each other on other programs too. Remember, it's not what they DO, it's what they SAY.

Come on guys. Don't be too hard on Korean TV. You should watch that NEW Korean comedy "High Kick". It's the most watched show right now and it's totally new lol.

I like the movie selection on Korean TV here. Always something at least watchable on (though I do get sick of seeing Troy and I, Robot on all the time). I also like that, unlike the US, there aren't long commercial breaks every six minutes.

I get a channel called screen. It shows a lot of indie or near indie films. Like some Jim garmish flicks or films like sunshine or Chinese box. It reminds me of IFC in the us. But then again who can top seagal?

I think the prize would have to go to "Con Air" for being the most-played movie on korean tv. Up-and-comer would be Apocolypto.
