Ironic that Thriller with its zombie theme makes it in there, isn't it?
Beatles, Michael Jackson In Vaticans Top 10 Albums
Monday, February 15, 2010 11:51AM - By Jeffrey Hyatt
It might be hard to imagine the Pope and his fellow Vatican buddies kicking back in the Pope lounge, enjoying various rock albums, but the man is certainly entitled to his entertainment. And now we know just who the Pope prefers spinning on his turntable: LOsservatore Romano, the Vaticans official paper, have published a Vatican-approved, semi-serious guide to the Top 10 pop/rock albums of all time.
The articles authors, Giuseppe Fiorentino and Gaetano Vallini, included such classics as The Beatles Revolver, Fleetwood Macs Rumors and Michael Jacksons Thriller in the list.
Check below for a full list of Church-approved music.
Its a solid list; plenty of classics. Only two titles stand out as curious choices If I Could Only Remember My Name by David Crosby and The Nightfly by Donald Fagen.
Both are awesome albums, but I would have never imagined theyd be on such a by-the-book top ten. Seriously, of all the albums they could have chosen, the idea that a David Crosby solo album made the list is great.
Some songs seem to have been written yesterday. while others still send shivers down the spine for their illuminating simplicity and musical thrust the writers of the article said about Thriller.
Regarding the Oasis album, LOsservatore Romano said the album was never equaled in part because of the disruptive in-fighting by the Gallagher brothers, the leaders of the group.
Its good they put they semi-serious note to go along with the musical exercise. Not for nothing, but many of these musical artists havent exactly been following the way of the Church over the years. But thats rock n roll, baby!
A little handbook of musical resistance could be useful during this time of the year in which, in addition to having put up with the rigours of winter, we have to endure a rising tide of musical festivals, the writers said of their best album editorial.
So as not to be totally overwhelmed, and to remember that an alternative exists, our modest guide can point you on the road to good music.
Curiously there is no Bob Dylan. The writers noted that Bob Dylan was excluded from the list despite his great poetic vein because he paved the way for generations of unprofessional singer-songwriters who have harshly tested the ears and patience of listeners with their tormented stories.
The albums are perfect listening material for anyone who finds himself marooned on a desert island, the Holy Sees newspaper noted.
