| Here's Comedy Central's list of top 100 stand-up comedians of all time |
Is that the list of top 100 American stand up comedians of all time or is it actually pretending to be a global contest like the "world' series baseball tournament which America wins every year? I notice a couple of token Brits in there towards the end so I suppose it must be the latter. |

| Eddie Murphy, at least in decades past. The guy could read from a phone book and still be hilarious. |

thank you.... and remember, the reason you can teach English in Korea is due to the US's global position as the unipolar superpower... ut give it a decade or two, study Chinese and you can teach somewhere else....
You may go now. |

Good list.
My favorite new stand-up is definitely Jim Gaffigan. |

| Richard Pryor. Eddie Murphy and Bill Hicks were both inspired by him. He had a knack of turning his painful life experience into comic gold. |

No mention of Lenny Bruce or Cosby? They can't go unmentioned...

Yes and the reason you can semi-articulate yourself in English in the 21st century is because your country (I'm assuming you're American) was colonised by a bunch of do gooder kill-joys way back in the 17th century , and the reason they spoke English was they came from England, which had previously been colonised by the Normans, the Anglo Saxons, the Vikings, the Romans and the Celts yada yada yada yawn yawn yawn.....Is all that really relevant when we're talking about the greatest stand up comedians of all time. We all know Yanks don't get real humour but 2 brits in a list of 100 is surely taking the piss |

If it's any consolation, I think you're funny. Not top 100 funny, but still funny. |

"funniest man ever" is probably not a stand-up comic. Everyone is mentioning them (along with a few comedic actors) but the funniest are probably writers. I'm kind of surprised no one mentioned Larry David. I wouldn't say he's the funniest personally, but he wrote some funny stuff for Seinfeld and several posters here also seem to like his HBO show.
Who were the main writers for "Arrested Development?" Or how about a humorous author like Twain, Swift or even Dickens (I found "the pickwick papers" to be rather funny). Or what about a cartoonist like Gary Larson?
I'm not nominating any of these people as THE funniest, but it is a little odd, to me, that stand-ups are getting all the attention here. |
