I've been waiting on something from GEPIK but I have this weird impression that it's on hold until SMOE is finished for real?
I should add this is total speculation on my part - maybe only because my recruiter is tied to both SMOE and GEPIK........
I would have thought I'd have been clearly denied at this point....not even that.

I heard from my recruiter today. I still don't have a job. She says the last of the placements through the GEPIK office will be announced Feb 17th. I had been under the impression that I was waiting on her to place me directly with a school. She says she is "very positive" about my placement. I'm not.

I wanted to work at a public school, but I can't keep sitting around waiting, I need a job. Guess I will start looking for a hagwon. Can anyone recommend an honest hagwon recruiter?

Has anyone else gotten any news about their GEPIK placement?

I got my placement last Thursday. Now I'm just waiting for the paperwork to go through the beauracracy. So apparently placements are being made after all.

your recruiter could be correct. I know that Feb 17 (or 18 or 19) are the official dates of the last of the personnel re-assignments in Gepik.

Though the teachers found out the other day where they will be going, movement of principals and vp's occurs on those days (they know already if they're going somewhere, but on that day they will find out where, it'll be the "official" announcement)

Is it possible there's a round of hires yet to happen after the "re-assignments"? Is hiring definitely over for March?

Did you get placed through the GEPIK head office or through your recruiter working with a school?

My recruiter said there are positions starting in April and May. It sounded like anything I would get at this point would be starting then. But it wasn't totally clear.

I recieved notification that I had a placement. They sent all my documents to get an NOA.

I waited to recieve it and then 1 week prior to when I thought I needed to leave, I was told that the date I had been provided was incorrect.

They needed me on the 1st of April, not March.

The $150 plus I needed to pay for accomodation in a city not my own is now spent.

The extra $200 to pay for airfares to a new city has to be paid.

The accommodation I lost because I thought I would be leaving in Feb.
The study plans that cost me money etc.

Its easy for Gepik to change its plans, for us that have to live through it isn't.

In total, I have spent over $2000 to be in a position to be ready for a job, just to find out that its money wasted as they changed everything.

Just once, I would like the Koreans to realise that thier actions affect us and not always in a positive manner.

Why can't they comprehend the effects of thier lack of planning?

It's not that they can't comprehend it, it's that they largely don't care.

If you're going to kick up a fuss over these few inconveniences, then they hope you will give up before you start, kind of thing.

There's always another noob waiting.

I'm not saying it's right, but that seems to be their attitude.

I know, its just hard to accept that you are a pansy.

Its better to tell them to "go and *beep* themselves".

To burn them to the ground and wipe them off the planet.

To say to them, "FU" I won't put up with this shit any more.

It just sucks, but happily I don't care any more.

I have other plans, so I will live my own life without them.

Once you get here, you'll see that some or most people at your school will help you (unless you have a bad school). GEPIK doesn't care about you or any of us. Not one bit, no matter how hard you try or how well you teach. The important thing is to know this up front and get in contact with your new school ASAP. Work with them and see what happens. But, other than orientation, take my advice and don't deal with GEPIK for ANYTHING once you are set up at your new school. Rolling Eyes

agreed. you work for your school and you deal with your school. Gepik, other than orientation, or should you deal with some school from hell that completely disregards the contract is pretty useless.
