I found out this afternoon, that in one of the public schools I'm teaching at, there is going to be a Korean (English) teacher working as the co-teacher in the English classes from March.

Two of my Korean co-teachers were very surprised by this, one even rang the local Education Board but found out nothing more than the original e-mail message this afternoon.

I will be teaching from March in my two other schools. I suspose my question is, is this happening anywhere else as well?

I'm not really concerned, just curious...

You mean like a K-English teacher who isn't a qualified teacher, right?

They are doing that in my district. I think they are going to be called Teaching Assistants (TAs). Appropriate, 'cos the one at my school is drop dead gorgeous.

The school I taught at had this which was helpful as it was a kindergarten immersion hagwon. My teaching partner could understand what the children were saying but would talk to them in English. She could also help me in a crisis. We were able to work together to plan lessons that were culturally relavent and she was able to communicate with the parents. This helped her out too since she was interested in becoming a certified teacher and wanted to gain some much desired experience. We were a great team.

When I left everything had changed. The new Korean business director wanted to hire only teaching partners with certification regardless of their english proficiency. the result: teaching partners who could not speak a word of English, the new English teachers allowing the teaching partners to lead lessons in Korean because it made their job easier and basically none of the students were progressing in the same way as before.

No, he/ she is i believe a qualified teacher because they are taking over my job which is that of NET working as co-teacher, except that person is Korean. There will still be the normal Korean classroom teacher acting as co-teacher.

Whoever this person is, they are now the disignated English teacher in the school and will be going from class to class as the English speaking expert.

This is not in a Hogwan but a Public Middle School.

I know for elementary schools we're getting rotating K-"conversation" teachers... They rotate between a couple of schools and do the new grade 3 and 4 conversation classes... Maybe something similar going on?

I think my situation is different, it's basically as I've said in my posts apart from the fact (which I should have explained) the two co-teachers that spoke about it to me were a 5th grade and 6th grade teacher respectively.

This is a small rural school, 140 students. The Korean Teacher is coming in and being employed as the English teacher. They will be teaching all grades 3-6 and then teaching at a smaller satellite school as well on other days.

Ah well I can understand if people are confused.... because so far everyone involved at my end (both korean's and me) are very confused as well.
