I'm in Hong Kong and there's a real tasty brand of jerky out here that I wanna bring back as a gift for a few people. Will the dogs sniff it out and I'll have to take it out and eat it all on the spot?

Had a friend bring some back no problem...

Speaking of customs... Has anyone actually been checked my those guys at ICN?... Seems that every time I go through there I hand off my "nothing to declare" form without a second glance at the officer LOL

I got searched by them once. When I got my bag from the carosel there was a big, bright yellow plastic box strapped to it. As I approached customs it started to beep really loudly- everyone started moving away from me at this point. Laughing
Anyway the customs guy took off the box with a key and searched me- I had brought about 20 cases of protein bars with me, and he wanted to know what they were. After a quikc inspection I was on my way.

is it the kind made with strawberry jam? I used to love that stuff back in Canada. Wish you could get it here.

Meat is one of those things you're not supposed to bring. You could try finding a shop that sells it by the case and ordering it through the mail..

I bring that stuff in all the time. I tried to declare it in Japan and the guy was like "Pffft!" and tossed my bag on. In Korea they have never done or said anything.

I am willing to bet that no one gives a flying flip about you carrying beef jerkey unless you have it by the caseload.

I brought a bunch of beef jerky back from Cali the last time I visited my ma, the Korean customs personnel are as effective as the their American counterparts are obnoxious.

You CAN carry/import meat products PROVIDED they are:
processed and packed in "factory" sealed bags/cans/etc.

You CANNOT carry unprocessed meat, meat products or plants / fruits.

My parents tried sending me some from the US. First time, no problem. second time, they opened the box and took it out and repacked the box as if nothing was wrong. I received a letter the next day saying it was banned and if i tried again i would get a 5M won fine. also my leather belt disappeared from that same box.

Urgent message from the Clue Hotline: it was stolen. The letter was just to guarantee you don't gripe to anyone of consequence about it.

Anything that is in your checked luggage will come in.

Going to the US is the same. I had like 15 pounds of dried Anchovies, 5 pounds of dried PErsimmons, 10 pounds of Red Pepper Flakes, and 10 packages of Lotte Vienna sausages in my checked bag going to the US.

US Customs didn't inspected my luggage and passed everything.
