I'm with Gepik at an elementary school. If I re-sign at the end of May when my contract is up, will I get a 2 week break in between contracts, or do I have to take it during my summer vacation??? So to break it down, can I go home from May 25th to June 8th?? Thanks.

I read the contract for Gepik but its confusing.

You can take it any time the school is NOT in session (with the approval of the principal).

You WON"T get it from May 25-June 8. You will probably get it during the summer break and add it to your summer holiday time or add 1 week to your summer break and 1 week to your next winter break.

Time to decide which you prefer and make your pitch.

In the past I have added mine to my summer vacation. That way I can go home for a month instead of two weeks. It meant waiting a little longer for my first trip home, but well worth it by my reckoning.

Just got back from vacation a few days ago...I added mine to the winter vacation and got 3weeks+ in the Philippines.

So yeah it can be done. That two weeks break at the end of the contract generally is for people who sign a contract in September/March (the usual starting times). If you sign up outside these times, then the break will likely have to come at a different time as well (if you are re-signing).

thanks for the info. thats what i was afraid of. I do see there are pros and cons to this though, which is ok by me. So in all reality, I would then have, instead of 20 days of vacation, 34 days?

Yes, but not altogether. Some in the summer and some in the winter...depends on your contract and what you agreed upon with your school.

The wording in the contract and manual that the school uses can be quite tricky. If I recall correctly, the manual says something along the lines of 14 days for re-signing including weekends and national holidays. So, if you take it all at once you can obviously have two weeks because that's how it works out. If you split it up, then you should also still have 2 weeks. However, I have heard of people who split it up and had the weekend days and holidays actually used against them when taking the other half.

Just work it out with your coteacher and principal first, and there shouldn't be any problems later.
