I work in an Industrial Complex. There are 90,000 trainees and labourers
here from many different countries. English teachers are definitely
a minority within the minority.

I don't think it really exists...there isn't a minority preferred hagwon chain or whatever....now if your talking about non-teachers...itaewon obviously....I'm not sure where all the phillipinos live outside of seoul...

Definitely Ansan.

Walking round there is a sea of Non Koreans-mostly Vietnamese and I guess bangladeshis. Its quite a novel experience to be somewhere in Korea yet see so few Koreans ^!

If you're talking only about teachers, then no, there is no "racial segregation" as such.

I live in Gwangju in Jeollanamdo. Not the Gwangju in Seoul. I teach elementary. 6 months teaching, I love it. Looking to move to Seoul after my contract ends though.

Actually Wall Street Institute hires non-whites quite often. I know quite a few brothas and non-whites working there and that hagwon is one of the most expensive/well renowned for adults in Seoul.

As far as teachers, I only know about 10 [males] publics school teachers and only hang out with 3 of them. The community isn't that big and I choose to only hang out with the brothas that are actively trying not to fall into the stereotypes people are eager to place us in.

And for anyone wondering, yes, I can slam dunk, but I don't like to play basketball. That is all.

@ Market Fresh: I hear if you live in Korea having one or two hobbies will save you from boredom (desk warming/too much free time). Plus I totally understand why someone might dislike it here. I have my days when it sucks. But there are too many good days that cancel out the "I'm sooo bored/this sucks" moments.

Why I'm moving to Seoul: more opportunity--professionally and socially. Life here is okay, but Seoul is basically where it's at, where I want to be. For more you can visit my post: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=177897&highlight=
