Well that means you are not going but not that ALL these places are as you describe.
The better places are clean, well maintained and pleasant. Of course, the smaller, older neighborhood bath houses are sometimes dirty.
You need to be able to differenciate between a SPA and a local BATH HOUSE....
For example, in Busan, Spa land in the Shinshegea department store is sparkling clean. They clean the jimjilbang 3 times per day, the baths are cleaned every day....but if you are unconfortable with going to such places thats your perogative. Crapping on the places are bad however is dumb and ignorant. |
My description was very brief and accurate. ALL the places are as I described! Shared pajamas and pube soap. Unless "Shinshegea" throws out all the pajamas 3 times per day as well.
Anyway, it's the stuff you can't see that causes the problems.
Why would you willingly share a pair of pajamas with hundreds upon hundreds of other people? |

Shinseagea washes the pjs more than once every day. There is a basket for the ones that have been worn. It is emptied and taken to the laundry many times per day.
The soap issue...for petes sake man YOU BRING YOUR OWN TOILETRIES TO THE SPA.... 
Many people bring their own towels as well.
Why rely on what they have except perhaps toothpaste (which you get free)?
Many other larger spas and some local spas I visited in my time were clean.
So yes your description was brief....it was however simplistic and highly personal. I would venture to say you have not even visited many bath houses and no real Spas either.
Still, your choice and no one can dispute it. You prefer not to go, many people like to go and enjoy it. You are likely a bit germaphobic as well, otherwise your reaction would not be so shrill.

Well, man, I would venture to say I've been to more saunas and oncheons than you have. I have been to great ones and bad ones. I am stating that hundreds of people wear the same pair of pajamas, washed or not.
I've been to hundres of saunas, oncheons included.

lol..you want to compare sauna visits?
Ok for fun: I was in Korea 11 years, visited the local bath houses 2-3 times per week, the spa once per week, sometimes twice.
When traveling in Korea, always hit the local spa, hot spring or bath house.
When visiting Korea (we left in 2008) we stay for 4-6 weeks, I visit the spa 2 times per week and the local bath houses nearly every day.
I would say the vast majority of these places were clean and decent with some bad joint in the mix of course.
If you have been to hundreds of saunas, oncheons and other such facilities and still hold this opinion of yours then the germaphobic argument becomes a conclusion....also why visit hundreds if you hate them so much...this is a bit odd....
So either you just lied or you are a gluton for punishment. |
