On the health statement it says that we will be tested for alcohol and drugs when we arrive in Korea. I am leaving in a couple of days and my buddies want to go out and have a drink with me before I leave.
But I am worried this will show up in my blood. How long does it take to leave your blood system?> |

Depending on your gender and body weight, it takes an hour for your body to eliminate one standard drink.
You won't be tested 5 minutes after you step off the plane. So, you are worrying about nothing. Go get hammered with your buddies. |

Maybe if you go on a massive bender, you might have trace amounts 80 hours later.
They don't test your liver function in the VISA medical. There is a general medical you do after a couple of years that tests that sort of stuff. |

HONESTLY, I have never met anyone in Korea who cared about alcohol as far as not getting a job. Drugs? Yeah, that's a BIG deal. |

Yes they do (test your liver funciton for your visa medical)...
They were convinced that I had hep C based on my liver enzyme test, despite no other symptoms and my having had the vaccine in the 7th grade...
Forced me to have an ultrasound done to prove that I had a fatty liver (4 years of university drinking will do that, along with being drunk for 2 of the 3 days before the test LOL... Oddly enough my liver function was 100x better when I went for my second visa medical a year later! It's a soju miracle!) |

ㅋㅋ. Ok. I don't remember it being on the VISA medical I took. Somehow I have liver function in the top 2nd percentile, despite having drinking habits similar to yours. I suspect the test for liver function might be wildly inaccurate.
I know it's on the general medical you take every 3 years as a PS teacher. My co-teach got great merriment out of pointing out I had a third of the green bar filled for dementia (don't ask me how they measure it), he shut his face when I pointed out his high, cholesterol despite him admonishing me every day to finish my rice. |

I think they should test teachers for down's syndrome. |

Ummm, unless there's been some major medical breakthrough in the last 24 hours, there isn't a vaccine for Hepatitis C, just A and B.
With that said, I know that they do check your liver enzyme function on the e2 medical check ~ however, as others have noted, you won't need to do that immediately (I think you have like over a month to get that done after arriving in Korea). |

Enzyme counts in your blood sample.
And the probing. |

If anything, you'll be forced to imbibe copious amounts of alcohol in Korea. Perhaps, if the test comes up negative, this alerts them to your teetotaller status and will justify sending you back home!
