Ok so, I have an interview to finalize my E2 Visa at the Korean Embassy in Chicago on the 23rd. Does anyone have experience with them? They say it takes 3 days to process the visa. My school wants to buy my ticket for the 28th. I can get the really fast return postage; I only live 5 hours driving distance from Chicago. Is this enough time?

You should be fine. Just relax. Look presentable and you'll be fine. BTW, where are you going to teach?

I do not understand this process. Mail everything to Korea; visa gets approved. What are they doing with my passport for three days at the Chicago consulate? It is stressful because the boss in Korea wants me there on a certain day and is dead-set on buying the ticket for that day. I can't make any guarantees that my passport with visa stamp will be back in my hands by that time. People can go to Japan and have their passport stamped by the next day. Is it an option here in the United States to pop in the next day and pick up the passport? Sorry, just venting.

I thought people could do that, but then I ran across this, "need to make an appointment for an interview and it takes 2-3 business days to complete the process of a visa application after the interview" - http://www.chicagoconsulate.org/en/sub03/sub03_01.php

Them's the rules I guess. Get your interview done NOW.

The Korean consulate in Chicago is pretty speedy....every time I went the place was empty...it was just 5 or 6 women sitting around reading or talking.

Like you, I had to really push to get everything finished before I left America.

I dropped off my passport at the Korean Consulate on Tuesday and picked it up on Friday.

Im in GEPIK though so I didnt need to interview and cant tell you about that.

The women told me when my passport would be finished by and it was. The good news is that you'll probably get it back a little faster than others because the massive EPIK application period has probably passed.

Because they don't process yours once the get it, They're processing others who came before.

The first time I went, there was no one else in the consulate. The seoncd time, 4 days later. It was packed. Tons and tons of people.
