I've seen quite a few threads pop up since I've been on this board regarding Korean language classes, but I don't think I've seen this place brought up before.

I saw the ad for Metro Korean Academy on Korea Beat and was wondering if anyone has taken courses here? It sounds a lot like the Sogang courses (and is similarly priced) with qualified K-language teachers and small class sizes.

If anyone has attended classes here I'd be interested to hear your opinion. I'm at about a High Beginner level and have taken a couple months at YBM. I really didn't think the YBM classes were that helpful though and I think I have gotten more out of self-study with the Sogang University textbooks.

Oh, and if anyone else wants to check out MKA here is the link:

I took a MWF course there in January and can definitely recommend it. A friend of mine took a course there too and learned a lot (different level, so it wasn't just my class that was good).
Small classes, decent book, and a very well-prepared teacher (smoking hot too, which is always a plus Cool ).

I took some classes there and I recommend it highly. I had a couple excellent teachers. Starting from Level 3 they use the Sogang books. But the classes are very different from Sogang classes. Class sizes at MKA are tiny and we spent lots of time talking and didn't have to do any stupid workbook exercises, and no tests, so for those reasons I liked it better than Sogang. But you can't really compare it to Sogang, since Sogang is an intensive course, 20 hours per week, and MKA is only 6 hours per week and doesn't require nearly as much intensive reading and writing. Studying at MKA, you need to be disciplined enough to study a lot on your own, because with only 6 hours of class instruction, you will not learn the book if you don't do some extra at home.

So there is a lot of speaking practice? That is definitely what I need. I think I will sign up for March classes.
