I went to a Korean restaurant in Scotland before I came out here. 12 quid for a bottle of soju. Enough said.

Table cooking is already a big hit in Toronto.

It's a hit in a few circles in the States but has a lot of the same issues mentioned above. Of course, hearing American women say "I like pull-go-kee" grates my nerves like nails on a chalkboard

Maybe Korean food just isn't that great... any way you market it, Korean food will still be Korean food.

Galbi/Sam gyup sal restaurants if priced well could rival kebabs as the post pub food of choice IMO. One problem could be that H&S laws in the UK are very anal and strict, opening a place with such highly flammable gas cannisters underneath the BBQs could be problematic.

Same in the US. Someone gets sick because they didn't cook their food thoroughly and the place would get shut down overnight.

Korean food has been popular in Soho in London for a few years now. It is very expensive compared to Korean food in Korea, but still fairly cheap by London standards.

As others have said it sucks paying very high prices for soju and having to pay for banchan but this is just the culture. Nothing comes for free in 'The West'. I mean when was the last time you 'service' in London or New York or Paris, it just doesn't happen.

I too thought that Korean BBQ style places where you grill at your table would go down a treat in the UK. Not just Korean food, but places where you could grill your own steak etc. As others have mentioned, the insurance costs due to Health & Safety regulations make these ventures very difficult to get going and would also lead to high prices...so no more free banchan etc.

Where in the States are you from (if you are)? These are open all over the place in California. I ate at one just yesterday (one of my more considerate friends made the decision to take me to get Korean food out of the hundreds of different types of food we could have chosen while I'm on vacation away from Korean food... Cool).

Dublin has its own little korea-town! Great restaurants and 1 singing room!
Soju is about 15 Euro a bottle though!
