I will have a phone interview with this school tonight. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences or info with this school.
I just started applying for work and have been bombarded with emails
Thanks |

Hi darrenjzy,
If the school is Little Campus in Haeundae, near Busan, then I worked there for nine months.
My experience was not fantastic. I was required to read the Bible to the children. This caused some tension because this wasn't mentioned to me when I signed the contract and I am an athiest. More to the point, I was there to teach English, not scripture. After I had been working at the school for a while the Director of the school (a woman whose name I won't mention) decided that there wasn't enough money for cleaners and the teachers had to clean the classrooms themselves.
This was several years ago (2001-2) so things may have changed but I must say that she wasn't the nicest boss. The other staff were lovely and the kids were fantastic.
Korea is a fantastic place to teach, and Busan is so much better than Seoul. Hauendae is the place to be - right on the beach but close enough to the lively city of Busan.
You will get bombarded with emails. Consider going through a recruitment agency. I ended up being friends with my recruiters! They will know which schools are decent ones. Go for a larger recruiter with a good reputation - there are a few dodgy ones out there. Going directly to the school is fine, but they can't give you an unbiased picture of the school really can they?
You should expect to get your living expenses paid at the very least. Good schools will pay for flights and a working visa (rather letting you work on your tourist visa, for which you have to leave the country every few months...and is illegal).
Good luck. You will have a total blast in SK. Spend time finding the right school!

Hey thanks for the advice.
I had the interview and never heard back. I asked to be contacted by one of their native english teachers. The interviewers' response was a little shaken, but maybe it was just me.
I've had a difficult time finding a job in Busan only. All the recruiters want to place me elsewhere, but I'm partway through the interview process of a few of the big schools. One of them wants to place me near PNU. I would prefer beach, but at this point I'm getting less strict.
Thanks again. |
