Interesting podcast.
AFEK sounds like a good group. Were I still in Korea with a F-visa I would have joined up. Sounds like a good network.
the interview was very informative. |

Anybody with an F- class VISA can join AFEK. It's a really helpful and interesting community on the web. |

People pretty well need to be invited or recommended by a member. |

Interesting and informative podcast about a site I am dissapointed to not have heard about before.
One question: They talked about the different F-series visas and touched upon the F-5 and I didn't quite get why it exists. It's for people with F-2 visas who want to upgrade to something 'their wife/husband doesn't own'? I know they meant that you can get a visa not tied to your spouse, but why does it exist? What are the benefits of getting it?
On another note, although I have never mentioned it before, I thought it the first time I heard The Midnight Runner, the podcast reminds me a great deal of The Circuit, which I listened to when I was into poker.

I'm probably wrong, but I thought an F-5 VISA lead to a Korean citizenship.
Also, with an F-2 you are tied to Korea through your spouse. If you get divorced, you are no longer an F visa holder, but with an F5, you can remain in Korea independently. |

What about an E visa, as in E-2? Have been on one for 13 years. |

At this time, only F visas may join AFEK. If you have been at the same workplace for five years or longer, you may be eligible for an F-2 visa; a good friend and colleague of mine got his that way. |

I'd like to join. I've got an F2 visa, but how do I go about asking a current member to 'recommend a friend'? I don't know any current members or anyone here on daves.
Thanks. |

You can scan a few different pieces of information and e-mail it to them to prove you have an F-series visa. I think they would accept your alien card, re-entry permit or your passport stamp. Of course, you can edit out the pertinent information that could be used to identify you. I assume a digital photograph would work as well.
On another note: I found a thread in the jobs forum about the F-5. Apparently there are a great many who are going for it these days. Maybe in another few years I will be amongst them.

I'm glad people seem to have enjoyed the interview. I'm pretty amazed at the professionalism too... It was online 2-3 hours after we recorded it!
To answer a few questions... The F-2 needs to be renewed and has conditions attatched. The F-5 is permanent, though I think you lose it if you leave Korea for more than 12 months.
Unless you know a person who can vouch for your F-status, the only way to join is to submit your ARC. Only I will see the ARC, whereas mine is on the site as an example for the world to see, so don't worry about me doing silly things with the limited information you submit (you censor the good stuff).
I hope to see a few of you join up |

I'll be joining unless I have to put up with more of that accent. Thought I was listening to Ringo Starr there for a minute! |

I have always said my accent is neutral. After listening to that, I'm not so sure.... |
