Hi guys.. came here to tell you a great opportunity..
I'm a teacher here in Korea, and recently I found a wonderful event.
I'm writing this because very few people have joined the event.
I mean, it would be very great for us ESL teachers in Korea
to have a free hotel stay ticket, isn't it??

Korea's ministry of tourism has recently created a brand named 'benikea' for mid-low cost hotels in Korea. Benikea is under event and right now, only 16 people have joined the event.. you know what?? among those 16 ten will get the free hotel-stay tickets.. So the chances are pretty huge !

Click the following link and write about Korea ...
http://www.benikea.co.kr/_eng/event/event_02.asp

Sincerely,
Lydia

Sounds like a great idea. Wasn't there an article a few months back about foreign hotel chains getting into the market in Korea because the only options are either 4-5 star hotels, or love motels?

Couldn't "join" the page (maybe a firefox issue) but I will share a story, though probably not want the tourism ministry wants to hear.

A few months ago around Halloween, I went up to Seoul for a weekend. I got off the train at Yeongdungpo station around 3 in the afternoon. I preceded to exit the station and head across the street to one of the many "love" motels. However, of the 5 or 6 different ones I visited, I was told that I could not get a room for the night..people could only get a room for "daesil" which basically is renting the room for 2-4 hours to have a quickie. Travelers like myself who had bags to put down and wanted a room or the night had to wait until 8-9pm before you could check in. Imagine the idea of wanting a room to take a shower after a long trip, change clothes and head out to see the sites of the city.

I finally convinced one young lady working at one of the places to allow me to put my bags behind the check-in desk until I came back at the time i would be allowed to have the room for the night. However I had to fight tooth and nail for that, and for a tourist or other traveler who cant speak Korean and haggle for it..they would have been out of luck.

While I think the idea of a hotel chain to cater to tourists is a much needed blessing, I hope this kind of rule will not apply to the new chain. (cant check in until our peak sex times are finished) While I understand why those motels have such practices, it is not very accommodating to travelers.

As far as I know, the Benekia program (run by K gov't) has died and been revived a few times in the last couple of years and also has a limited number of properties.

The better program by the Seoul gov't is: http://innostel.visitseoul.net/en/web/Inno/select/SelectInno.asp

Then maybe one of them can tell me what it's about. I'm confused.
