I just got back from a visa run to japan, and they just released this thing called the PSX. It's a playstation with the power of an xbox, and a dvd player with remote. there was probable other stuff too, but everyone was talking japanese. Anyway, it was like 100,000 yen. ouch.
Has anyone seen this in Korea yet. I'm guessing it would be about a million won or more. Any info would be cool. |

Basically it's really high end digital recording box that has a PS2 built in. The "set-top-box" promise of the future in the 1990s, now in action. Record shows, burn DVDs, network share, copy CDs onto it for use as a jukebox, play games, download stuff, etc.
Sold surprisingly well when it launched a few months ago. |

The PS2 - for sure. I remember when people had to pay 500,00+ won for PS2s imported in from Japan. After a few years the government lessened its xenophobic crybabyism and allowed the PS2 in - and it's a killer. Of any game system - for the kids in teach - they either own or want to own a PS2. I don't blame them.
X-BOX is a great machien but far too many of the games suck.
I would agree that the PS2 improved DVD popularity in South Korea. It's grown 400% since the medium was launched in SK in 1999.
