Can someone explain to me why people who pirate software feel the need to whine and complain about the company they're stealing from trying to stop them from stealing? Seriously? You use the software, why not pay for it ya cheap punks?

That's not what was said at all.
But, why do you care more about piracy, when you should be more concerned that all this R&D you speak of can't produce a decent upgrade package.

That was a general comment about people who complain about companies trying to stop piracy, not in direct response here.

As for the R&D leading to a good upgrade package...I don't have any problems with upgrading. I put the disc in, it installs, I'm done. How could I ask for anything more than that?

You did alright, but lots of people have been reporting endless hangs, and endless reboots with the upgrade to 7.

The validation update is optional. Easy. Just uncheck it when prompted to update. I always check-out what my updates are before I click to install them anyway......

Upgrade versions are crap.
How many years are you going to use it? I used XP for over 6 years. At $300 retail, it comes to about $50 a year to use XP.

In that time OSX had: Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger, and Leopard. I can bet you that none of those upgrades came for free. So for 6 years I used 1 OS exclusively, Windows XP, which has been fantastic. XP rarely gave me any problems. There were 5 iterations of OSX during Windows XP. 5.

Anyone who says Microsoft is crap is stupid. Windows 7 is freaking awesome. It will be the mainstay OS for at LEAST 4 years. Can you sit there and say Snow Leopard will be the mainstay OSX version for the next 4 years?

Some people used Jaguar (10.2) for several years too and it worked out just fine for them. Just because you stuck with an operating system doesnt mean that Microsoft didnt make more of them.

Which, by the way, in the same time that Apple released those 4 Operating Systems (they werent simple upgrades) Microsoft was busy too...

Windows XP
Windows XP Service packs 1, 2, and 3
Windows Vista
Windows Vista Service Packs 1 and 2
Windows 7

And I'm not even including the 64 bit versions, or the 2003 edition...or the confusing seperate editions that they make customers choose when they finally settle on the operating system.

I do agree that Windows is not crap. Its all personal taste.

I'm a Mac user because in college I didnt have to wait in line to use one (pc users thought their MS Office files wouldnt work on an Apple computer) and I've just stuck with it and I'm happy....I dont look down on others who have the same feelings for Microsoft products.

Not that I think its crap, but can you explain why W7 is so 'awesome'?
It's an overly-flashy, disc heavy, driverless, Snow Leopard. In fact, a lot of features in Windows 7 were already in Leopard.
Just because you upgraded OSX doesn't mean Tiger will not perform well for the next few years. I know people still using it. I know people still using OS9.

I have an old laptop that runs windows 95 fine. Infact never had a problem with it. I leave it up at the ski lodge back in NZ where I am a member, gets me dial up, some old games and word docs

what's your point?

Old os on old computers tend to work fine.

The problem is when people try to run new os on old computers

That's basically my point right there, thanks.
I wrote in response to pkang0202 going through many OSXs, when it was just a matter of choice.

Has anyone tried buying a key only?
http://www.google.com/products?q=windows7+key+only&hl=en&aq=f
We've all got bandwidth to burn, and at only about 50 bucks it's a pretty tempting option.

so my system has the update message...i dont have automatic updaes so not a problem...im just curious why ms has been so open about it...wouldnt it just be better for them to lock people out their windows or make it a hassle so the only real solution is to buy the product. kinda like the xbox live bans

Looks like a good deal, but seeing that it is being sold out of Vietnam, I have a sneaky suspicion that it's not a legit version.

If you do a search on here you can find the post where they are selling Windows 7 for about $60. Its the full version.

The only downside is that you have to an education email address (.edu) but thats simple if you have a friend that works or teaches at a university.
