Hurt Locker is a great film but I don't know if it's what you'd call Best Picture material.
Same goes for Avatar, if you ask me (I liked it and I don't care that it was like Pocahontas). It should get Best 3D Animation or something but not Best Picture. |

The British Academy Film Awards have selected The Hurt Locker over Avatar for best film. Avatar, the biggest grossing film in history, picked up just a couple of awards in smaller categories, Production Design and Visual Effects.
What do you think about this? I have not seen Avatar and probably won't because I hear that the story is pretty thin. I've seen The Hurt Locker. It's good, but not good enough to claim best picture I think. Platoon it is not. But it was one of the better films of 2009.

I thought The Hurt Locker was a brilliant film. When you consider the budget of it with something like Avatar, it makes it even more amazing.
It is sort of like in sports: a team that spends 100x more on players than another team is going to be good. But when that team with the small budget wins it means a hell of a lot more.
I think The Hurt Locker was made for like 9-11million dollars. I bet James and the crew probably ate more than that for their food budget on Avatar. |
